We absorbed 10 million refugees from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) during the 1971 war and at least 1.5 million of them may have stayed back.  Movement of Bangladeshi migrants into India has never completely abated but is no longer a hot potato and is accepted as something we have to live with, India-Bangladeshi bhai-bhai and all that.  This as a third world country with the world's largest population of the poor.  And yet, we have to listen to constant human rights lecturing from the West when they don't want to clean up the mess they were very much a part of creating in Syria.  Fantastic!

No, the easiest way to shut down a discussion is to never listen to a single word that anyone else is saying.

It's true that part of the immigrants are from Afghanistan, and that people have been leaving there since late 2001 for some strange reason. It doesn't really matter to me though, I am ok with immigrants even from there given the state of the region. Ultimately I personally would rather my country support them and its citizens to a greater extent. I think overall the new immigrants will be beneficial economically if they are given a proper start. And you can't pretend nationalism isn't on the rise in western countries. The videos I've seen of white nationalists protesting immigration in Australia aren't fake. My Dutch friend sees anti-islamic tendencies rising in his country too.

How do you know that exactly? If more than 4 million people have left Syria since the start of the war, where did the rest of them go if only 1 in 5 refugees are actually from there? If Turkey took in half of them... where are the other 2 million? It's not like there are 10 million refugees moving into Europe.

People make the countries, not the other way around.  Nations have the problems they have because of who lives there.  Moving them to another country just imports all the problems with them.  No amount of liberal tears make this not true.

So do you believe that all the refugees being sent over are the bad people these countries want to get rid of? Aren't a lot of them just scared people that had their homes destroyed in a war by many more terrible men?

Sure, 20% of them might suck but pretty much 20% of ALL people totally suck. There will most likely be the same percentage of awful people. That's life.

If I was being rude I'd just tell you what I think...  you just want an all white society don't you?  Foreigners scare you. You fell hook line and sinker for page 1 of the Right Wing playbook.. play upon people's fears.

I understand perfectly well what point you are making, but I reject it outright.  It doesn't match with any reality I've ever seen.

rude???  I thought I was being polite hahahah.  Ask my right leaning FB friends how rude I can be. LOL

however.. as far as what I said.  Take it two ways...  keep your mind closed your ideology as your shield, and take offense where none was intended.

Or open your mind and perhaps understand what I was trying to say.  And appreciate what you have, and then perhaps have some empathy for those that don't have what you do and deserve nothing less.  You are no better, just born in a better country.

an authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization.
Conservatism as a political and social philosophy promotes retaining traditional social institutions in the context of culture and civilization.

Now that we've got that out of the way.

There are elements of communism in liberalism. It's call a "spectrum" for a reason. Conservatism is still pretty far from fascism in the US.
Particularly in their economic policy and gun laws. The things they want to be illegal are things that have always been illegal or else have never been prominent enough to be illegal. They are interested in preserving the traditions and social structure of the US. Honestly, liberals and conservatives are never really extreme like people make them out to be or all that different from one another. The fascist/communist dialogue is simply made up of, as I said, sensationalist, media-propogated straw man arguments. If you actually want to sound like you know what you're talking about to your conservative friends instead of blasting them with exaggerations, don't mischaracterize their views or try to scare them into agreeing with you.

wow man.  Someone pumped some serious talk radio into your brain man.

If I turn on CNN should I expect to see starving out of work Canadians marching on the capital. LOL

No it is a case that a country is doing the right thing and reacting a massive humanarian disaster and unlike some, it doing something about it. Some good in the world. I applaud it, for there is FAR too little of it today.  You are fortunate.. yet completely undeserving of what you have. For you don't appreciate what you have.  Not everyone has that, not through any fault of their own.  All they want is what you have, I have, most all of us have.  So yes, I do give a big hell yeah to Canada. For doing the right thing and taking in those displaced for they, and you, will all win in the end. It will make your country far better. Take the long view, not the selfish short term outlook.

and I applaud Canada whole heartedly for that, hell I wish we do that.

Be proud of your country.  At least yours has not forgot what once made this country great.
