What you are polling is not the whole demographics of Prog Fans, but a sample demographic of Prog Fans who have time to waste on an internet forum that can be bothered to click a button.

My previous thread was "what decade did you first get into prog" which is not quite the same thing. Yeah, some of us have time to waste and we do that by posting things that we find interesting. Others are more interested in analyzing their fellow prog fans motives for starting threads and trying to shame them(for whatever reason).

Interesting. Most of the voters are actually younguer than I would have expected, which I guess is actually a good thing, it means prog is very much well and alive at this age. I would have thought that most of the prog fans would be older than me, since I was born after the golden age of prog, but the majority is actually younger than me.

[I see no "rolly eye" ... I see a couple of "erms" ... in the space of nine years you have changed your tune from thinking we're all mainly a youthful bunch to thinking we're all a bit on the old side ... I find the idea that we've aged so much in 9 years to be very amusing, so I rofl'd. ]

Well first of all I didn't know you were keeping tabs on me but you are absolutely right I do change my mind. Actually it's more like not being able to get a handle on it not that it really matters but it is interesting. Sometimes it seems like prog fans are a bit on the younger side and sometimes it seems like they are a bit older(not that there's anything wrong with that). This poll has made me think that there is actually a big age gap. So yeah there are lots of older fans and lots of younger fans with the lowest number of fans being in the middle. How's that? I think the older fans show up more at festivals because a)they generally have children that are all grown up and so no family obligations and b)tend to have more financial stability and can afford it. There's also the factor of location. There might be more fans of a certain age in South America than there are in the US or wherever. I have a degree in Sociology so statistics and demographics are things that are interesting to me.

I guess prog fans in their late twenties and thirties are out partying on a Saturday night.

Glad to see a few wrinklies around here, I was starting to feel old with all the 20 somethings. I guess those 30 somethings grew up before the resurgence of prog as a niche genre

I think that those 30 somethings are so busy with life, they don't have time to hang around internet forums. Kids and careers leave no time to pursue your own interests.

I think this is the most likely reason, and if you checked just about any internet forum out there you would see a gap in the 30-something ages.

22 by the way

I think I know what that is, but it took some deep thought.
