Not only that but they're saying this compound was 100 yards from an important military complex or something... The Pakistani government always knew probably, and that's why the operation was conducted without their participation or knowledge...

Oh yes, damn Clinton for not wanting to start a war unless we had to. |
actually I'm guessing Slarti is a Clinton supporter - him being a big JFK fan - and simply meant it would've been nice if we'd gotten to him earlier

Ah yes, I jumped on that a little too much without much backing. My bad, Slart.

I'm personally glad he is dead. I'm not celebrating, but I know it is a bit of closure for the family of a college friend who died in the WTC. And closure is good, psychologically speaking, no matter how ephemeral or quixotic that closure may be.
They should now close down operations in Iraq (which was a patently ridiculous operation in the first place) and in Afghanistan, because our presence there serves no further purpose. The Iraqis and Afghanis will never accept western democracy, no matter how long we stay there. As soon as we leave, they will revert to medieval Muslim enclaves (after, of course, a bloody civil war in Iraq that will have the Sunnis, Shi'ites and Kurds shooting at each other). The money wasted in those countries would be better served here at home.
I've already been to two funerals for soldiers who died in Iraq, and have another friend who is crippled for life from injuries sustained in Afghanistan. There is no need for any more to come back maimed or in body bags.
Bin Laden's death is a good start. al-Zawahiri next. Keep killing the leaders. Keep the pressure on. They're the ones that brainwash young men and women into strapping bombs to themselves, while they hide smug in their bunkers, shielded by women and children.
One last thing, how is it that Pakistan should miss bin Laden's presence only minutes from downtown Islamabad, their capital? Is the presence of a newly-built and heavily-guarded palatial compound such an everyday occurence as to escape notice? Something to think about.

Yeah Slarti. We were close early on in Afghanistan but missed the chance. His death came by gathering intel, covert ops, and this operation was kind of outside the rest of the military and went on Obama's command. So Iraq really looks worth the time and money and heartache now!

They are suggesting Bin Laden used one of his wives as a human shield when the US invaded his hideout. This is as barbaric as he would get. BL - A real waste of oxygen.

BOTTOMLINE:
Just as hope started fading,
Flashes signal an impending fate,
Fate that shifts uneasiness temporarily,
And it comes not a moment too late,
Although deep down we know it's far from over,
The marionette's been hung by his puppet strings,
Although no fat ladies make their way to the stage,
A bluebird does cheerfully sing.

Now they are complaining about the fact that Bin Laden was given a (somewhat) decent burial at sea after washing him and wrapping him. "Our victims at 9/11 were't given the chance for a funeral". Oh my... I would have said instead that our acting somewhat decent (though with geopolitical intentions too of course) is what sets us apart from terrorists....

Hey Monodrone - check out the most puzzling films poll here - lots of Kubrick discussions you might be interested in!
ON Topic:
Bloomberg had some interesting things to say
The people of NYC are being interviewed now on TV here!
One said she would not be staisfied until she saw Bin Laden hanging from the highest tree.
Some of the siblings of victims are saying it is a sense of relief.
Is that the feelings of people here - relief?
The threat is far from over. But now what is next? Bin Laden was the figurehead, who is the leader now? Al Zawahiri? Saif Al-Adel? El Shukruumah?

I think Stanley Kubrick shot him before he died...

I'm predicting a heavy increase in militant activity in the Middle East against American troops pretty soon. al-Zawahiri is still alive and still al-Qaeda's chief of military operations, and I don't think they're going to take too kindly to their spiritual leader being killed by their sworn enemies...
I don't know if I can see them organizing an attempt on anyone like that, at least for a good while.
