Who, specifically, is this "they" you refer to, is that the alleged "cult". Do you have any actual proof of these broad allegations?

No.

This is one of their key gripes about Halloween frat parties. White people wearing 'ethnic' wear. It may not have been evident from this specific video clip, but it is one of the reasons they want Halloween banned on campus.

I'm sorry others don't share your views on Halloween and hand clapping, but you're not the authority, or are you?

No.

I'm obviously not as hypersensitive as those folks, because I don't have conniption fits at the sight of white people wearing sombreros at parties.

Ths isn't a music forum. This is general discussions forum, so the thread is perfectly valid. You were not obligated to contribute if you disaprove of thread so much.

I'm not opposed to them not liking Halloween. I don't really have an opinion on Halloween one way or another. I'm against them wanting to impose their position on others. Simples.

I also didn't say there was a conspiracy. The only thing I would concede is my use is my use of the word 'cult' which was probably not called for.

Was there anything else??

Because for too many people it means "the freedom to be a degenerate weirdo" or "the freedom to live off the hard work of others."

A high degree of freedom only works in a high trust society, which we haven't had here since, oh, somewhere around Diefenbaker.

And this somehow justifies putting censorship-happy doofuses like Franco and Pinochet in power?

It's about peoples perceived right to not be offended.

No one actually reserves that right at all, and these poor young people who have been dog trained to hyperventilate at the sight of a brown bag (look up: Brown bags are racist) are in for a nasty shock when they leave their "safe space" and head out into the real world with $100K + of debt to pay off, far from brilliant job opportunities and a world of corruption, deceit, racial hatred and a total lack of genuine compassion from the top down..

Life will chew them up and spit them out like a piece of discarded gum. They'll be crying for their f***ing mommies by the time the 'real world' has had its way with them. They'll miss the nice professor who they once berated for trying to be reasonable.

And this is what happens when expectations of life are set unreasonably IMO, and kids are led to believe they are gods and people don't have the right to upset them in any way shape or form. It's a form of abuse.

Curiously, David, I agree with your politics (I may be more extreme) but I still don't grasp what has that to do with the students complaining bitterly about a letter about Halloween costumes. I think I didn't wake up with my full set of IQ points on today for I still fail to see the reasons for your particular outrage...

Good question, T.   My outrage has to do with this thread and almost every single person agreeing with the OP.   I don't like unanimity, it bothers me.

I don't care about Halloween costumes.  Who would?

Nobody. And what sparked this whole thing.

I understand many other real issues and grievances students and all people really can have trouble with. Expressions of extreme political correctness in the incredible important matter of Halloween don't seem to be one of them.

But evidently it is what sparked this whole thing, both there and in this thread.   And so be it.   If a trivial matter sparks a heated discussion, it's okay with me.   That was my point from the beginning; apparently for everyone posting here, it is about much more than a collegiate hissy-fit.

^ Complete reactionary hogwash.   You're damn right black lives matter in regards to a white cop shooting a black man.   Black-on-black violence?   What about it?

This demonstrates an utter misunderstanding of human nature and how things work.   Oh and don't be so calm and civil.   I can feel your anger, young Jedi, so don't be bothered by or afraid of it.   A lot of people have a whole lot of growing up to do, and it is a painful process that I hope all survive.

Reactionary hogwash? Why, because I think people should take responsibility for their actions, for their lives and for the cultural indifference which leads to looking for mimetic scapegoats rather than accepting the fact that blacks as a proportion of the population account for a majority of the crimes, whether against people of other races or against that of their own?

When a delusional group of people march about shrieking "black lives matter" and then set fire to their own neighborhood's businesses, and in effect drive away anyone with the resources and gumption to build the community, they should instead police their neighborhood to ensure their children can get to school without being shot up or raped, should volunteer to tutor school kids to better their grades and prepare them for college (instead of trying to get $15 per hour working at fast -food joints), and should act as surrogate parents because so many sperm donors have ditched their families so that single-parent families are the rule and not the exception.

You want black lives to matter? Take responsibility, stop relying on hand outs, quit acting like helpless victims, and demand that your crime-driven youths need to be held accountable for their actions.

Ah finally, some true colors, and plenty of anger.  That's what I like to see.  Your position is easy, unoriginal and dated, but at least it's real.

I'll let your post speak for itself as I couldn't do much more damage to you that it does.   I mean if you really want to do the 'Oh those nutty black people are at it again with their violence and drugs and "Hey baaaby, you wanna work tonight?" pimpin' and hoein'  thing, by all means, continue.

^^^  Paradoxically, the way to abolish the "freedom to live off the hard work of others" is to have more freedom, i.e, shrink the state and cut down redistribution of income.  This is NOT an advocacy of not having redistribution at all, but just to make a point that curtailing freedom means all the king's horses and all the king's men live off the hapless subjects.

OK, I too am going to take you up on this.  So what about market forces?  You really don't think market forces can be a counter to the (usually) inefficient and unproductive communist state?  Down here, the state of Kerala has a communist govt but everybody knows it survives on revenue from tourism as well as the expenditure of its large outward migrating workforce.  West Bengal was saved from complete collapse by organised and unorganised retail.  Soviet Union collapsed because the inefficiency of the state caught up with them and they could no longer provide a certain minimum standard of living to all to keep the union intact.  Whatever may have been Reagan's flaws in terms of inaugurating neo-con policies in US, he was certainly not a fascist and thank God for that.  The Fuhrer decided to take on Russia head on and look where it got him.

Yes, cause that worked out so well for the Germans during the first half of the 1940s.

The entire situation would be over in a week if Obama would get over his desire to eliminate Assad and cooperate with Putin
