Wouldn't that be one of the signs of the Apocalypse?

Of course not, Managers get WAY too much credit, AND blame. Torre was unspectacular all of his career, takes over one the greatest teams and suddenly he's amazing??? Joe Torre was a great guy, loved him, but of course he didn't have much to with the teams success and failure, just like with Girardi.

It really isn't that Farfetch'd. That is ample time. Last years Phillies and Mets anyone? That was REALLY under the pinch. I had the Pokemon in mind . .
So anyway, just talked about it. Now Melky is out and in the minors...not against that move, although he is one of the best fielders...his bat just can't do it. I couldn't understand why they put Gardner in the minors in the first place. With him and Christiansen for pinch runner options..they can steal some runs well.
Sexson is gone, but what were they expecting with him anyway?

Well, Leyland doesn't really have any options in his bullpen besides Jones and Rodney. Zumaya is on the DL and Farnsworth is just plain bad. And I seriously doubt the Tigers have a better shortstop than Renteria stashed away somewhere; the fact is, short is probably the thinnest position in the league right now (well, maybe catcher).
But I bet they've got somebody better than Sheffy somewhere.

Jim Leyland keeps writing Gary Sheffield's and Edgar Renteria's name in the line up and keeps putting Fernando Rodney and Todd Jones into games. I think that is pretty much the manager's fault. Granted it is not his fault that these guys aren't doing their jobs, but if he wouldn't keep going to these idiots they wouldn't keep failing. Anyhow, sorry for the sorry grapes. I generally do agree with the theory that it is the players than win and lose the games not the manager, but when the manager keeps doing the same stupid things over and over again you really have to wonder.
Of course the fact that both of those guys are even on the team is President DUMBrowski's fault, but that is another rant for another day.

It's hard to really blame a manager for a team's successes and failures, as they aren't really in control of most of the things that determine the outcome of a ballgame. It seems to me that the only really important job a manager does is manage the bullpen, and Torre definitively did NOT do a good job with that.

Yea, seeing the mets collapse like that was one of my happiest moments It's possible for the Yanks, if they fix their act.

YOU LUCKY BA*TARD! My friend out here in school is a hardcore eagles fan and I send him that games highlights all the time! And not to stray from baseball.... I don't know ProgBagel I have to think the Yanks are done. Even if the cut the sh*t right now they have quite a few games to make up, and 2 if not 3 teams to try and jump to make it in the playoffs. Not to mention their injuries. I would love for them to make it in on a miracle, but Im not putting money on it

The Yankees still have plenty of time. I completely agree with the benching Melky decision. Losing an arm in the field...but at least you can rely on Damon getting a hit every game and then some. Nady has been nothing short of a godsend.
With Mussina and Giambi most likely done with the Yankees this year, it is a serious drop in payroll. Kennedy and Hughes won't cost them that much.
They still have time, but they need to cut the sh*t.

That's true. I guess I just like the Cards and Brewers a lot more than anybody in the East.

The Mets,Philies and Marlins will have something to say about that as well. You can't count out the 2nd place team from the east at this moment.

Yea, considering their payroll is probably more than some countries...I think the expectations are justified. And I was HOPING. The pitching was holding on and holding on (And I give them huge credit) but the offense just never got going, and now it's all falling apart. Well, this year is pretty much shot. And as you've said there is no logical explaination for it...except they're just not trying. Well, the talent IS there especially all the young guys. Let's hope the future develops the way we hope. And you're not the only frustrated one man, believe me. Even my bro the Red Sox/Kinda Yankees fan is getting pissed

I know you can't stay on top forever, but it's just really f**king discouraging to see that it isn't a lack of talent bringing the team down, but a lack of effort and mental awareness. The team has been making stupid, inexcusable mistakes for weeks and weeks now. Robinson looks like he flat-out doesn't give a sh*t. Ian Kennedy got sent back down to AAA after one start because he has a terrible attitude; after his start he made a press conference in which he stated that he "pitched great" and he blamed the defense, bad luck, and basically everything that wasn't him for the fact that he got knocked around. The pitching staff is a patchwork right now. That makes sense, because the team's two best starters are on the DL, as is Hughes, the man who was expected to complete the rotation. But even when the starting pitching comes through, the bullpen gives it away, or the defense gives it away, or the batting gives it away, or the baserunning gives it away. It's a three hundred million dollar trainwreck out there.
