I came up with a piece of freestyle vocal (scat singing in a certain respect really) It's a cross between prog and grunge. I tried to cross the sound of little bits of Yes, Pearl Jam, Wishbone Ash and Pixies style vocals. It worked! I might use it as a proggy piece on its own and extend it, or have some lyrical verses put around it so it becomes an innovative trademark for an otherwise ordinary blues rock song.

I'm writing a song, it's aimed to be pretty proggish. The difference compared to you all is that I'm actually playing and recording the parts (guitar, bass, piano, clarinet, vocals. The drums are programmed). It's kinda slow going, because I'm constantly redoing parts when I decide I don't like them anymore.
Still, it's a lot fun. Haven't done lyrics yet. |

Ah, dammit! Which one do you want? "Ingen Titel" or "Frågetecken?"? Ingen Titel (No title) = A heavy jazz/rock instrumental Frågetecken? (Quesntion mark?) = A melodic jazzy "alternativ" instrumental |

argh, just a few links are working I tried them all, and yers Progmonster 2008 aren't working either =/
Well about what I listened to: Hyardacil - Composition a'la Genesis Very cool song man, the only low point here is the bass riff in the beggining, it sounds a little pointless and out of direction, besides that the song is very interesting, cool moods, nice melodies and soloing. there was a bunch of good breaks and nice atmospheres here and there, so I'm totally gonna give it a few listens more =) |

The key you provided for file download was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on Mediafire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or Mediafire. I use guitar pro 5 too and I have some tunes tabbed, I'm just waiting to get a decent sound card to make a record =( anyway, could ya upload the tune again please? well here's my latest tune, I guess it's finished but I'd like to add an alternative verse or chorus after the guitar solo instead of that cross-faded transition to the Outro... I play guitar, bass and I also sing, that's why my keyboard lines aren't pretty creative to be honest xD.. Oh and I also need to work on the score, right key signatures, etc.. anyway here it is http://www.speedyshare.com/838623274.html |

Here's a couple of old project's of mine, which some of you might have heard before (whatever..):
A 12 minute fusion improvisation recorded spring 2008. Me on the drums and Espen on the bass and guitar. It's mainly in 6/4 time although some variations occur.
A wacky parody of the christmas song "Santa's Coming Home Tonight" complete with jazz and blues influences and some really bizarre time signatures. VERY proggy!

Thanks, they are two of my favourite bands! I see you also post chord progressions here. Here is another one (a quasi waltz in 5/4, three beats on the first and two beats on the second): Db – Adim7/C Bbm7 – C#7/G# Am7 – Ab7#5 Gmaj7 – D/F# Fm6 – Em7 B/D# – E/D A/C# – Cdim7 … and finally back to Db If you play through these chords, remember to avoid parallell 5ths and octaves ! |

So, I figured out how to upload MP3's to this site.
And here's a little prog instrumental by me, which I have been working on for some time. It's called "Composition a'la Genesis." http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=923489&songID=8030723 It began with me coming up with a random guitar riff to go with a rhythm for 7/8 time signature, as I'd never really used it fully before. The riff was strong enough so I started to go from there. Composed in true canonical prog rock standards. A lot of modulations and time signature changes between 7/8, 6/8, 3/4, 4/4 etc. Has some 2-3 main themes in it, mostly built upon riffs. Largely inspired by the music of early Genesis. Hence the title. Too bad the sound quality was reduced a bit by me transporting it from Guitar Pro 5 to MP3. For example - no stereo effect. I guess it'll have to do. Oh, and also has an atonal polyphonic part. That's my own personal favorite - everyone else hates it though. Oh and my "band" hyardacil in that site thus far has 2 other compositions uploaded there. 1 is a very short thingy (under a minute) for organ and the other a decent length solo piece for the acoustic guitar. The only thing so far I'm not happy about this piece is that it sounds too damn happy. The best bit is - in my opinion - because of that the atonal part and the middle part keyboard solo that goes to minor keys at times. Anyways - always looking for constructive criticism. Anyone who feels like it's not too much trouble... As I can see there are a lot of realy musicians hanging around here. Care to give me some words? |
