Evening.
Play bass guitar & E.U.B., bouzouki, guitars, flute, bodhran, mess around on keyboards, used to be a "proper" classical singer (far too long ago). Was a pro, currently trying to get back into things while doing the 'single parent' thing. Ex-member of Citizen Cain, played bass on "Somewhere But Yesterday" (1994) Some of my current stuff is "folk-prog-jazz-whatever", and can be found over at: www.andygilmour.com FaceBook 'muso' page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Andy-Gilmour/11044336428 right, that's quite enough about me, who's next? |

I am studying music in college. I play the trumpet, as is required piano, and guitar. I jam with some friends for fun, nothing serious. I have never recorded anything, I mostly just learn songs of other artists, mostly metal(Priest,Metallica,Maiden,Megadeth). I play trumpet, so jazz and band music as well.

Hello,
I've been playing guitar since I was 11. I'm working now on the second GLAZZ album. GLAZZ is a trio of SPAIN of prog rock, I've got samples in www.myspace.com/joserecacha and www.myspace.com/glazzmusic
I also work as a producer, teacher, arranger and sound tech. I only dedicate to music, I'ts hard to survive here in Spain, but we're heading to London on March (9 - 16). I also can play nearly every stringed instrument |

Glazz in London March 9 2010 - March 16 2010!!

Are you a professional musician, semi-pro, wanna-be pro, or an at-home-messing-'round-in-my-spare-time player ?
Basically a "Messing 'roud in my spare time" player with a bit of wanna-be pro in me. Have you recorded your own compositions ? Got samples online ? Not yet, though my friend keeps claiming he's going to upload the video of me playing my sole "composition" to youtube one of these days. I'll be sure to post it in the "Just for Fun" section of the forums. What instrument(s) do you play ? Fretted and fretless electric basses, upright bass, trombone What instrument(s) do you wish you could play ? Drums and piano. Do you play Prog or another type ? Hmm, a lot of time I'd say it's another type, though it could probably almost fit in the fusion niche. On occasion I try to come up with some fun Zeuhl riffs but that doesn't work out so well that often. |

Are you a professional musician, semi-pro, wanna-be pro, or an at-home-messing-'round-in-my- Definitely a messing around spare time playerHave you recorded your own compositions ? Got samples online ? Not really a composer, love to improvise, no samples although I have recorded stuff that might be interesting. What instrument(s) do you play ? Mainly doing acoustic guitar and that's been my standard mode for many years, easy to pick up and put down. I prefer classical as my fingers tend to corrode the smaller gauge strings of the standard steel string guitar. Love to play synthesizer, too (an old Kawai K1 at the moment). What instrument(s) do you wish you could play ? Violin or flute, never picked either of those up but I feel I could do something interesting if I tried. Do you play Prog or another type ? Prog remains my favorite type, but since I'm primarily a dabbler and improviser, who knows what hell, I'm doing, I most certainly don't? |

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Played guitar/ guitar synth mostly for about 25 years.
Also play drums/bass. Would have loved to have learned violin. Have recorded 6 releases with a Canadian prog. metal/hardrock band Empyria since 1991. 3 cd's with my own thing called New Horizon. (melodic metal w/ prog elements) 1 disc with a band called Ten2nine. (Melodic Rock) 1 EP with death/prog metal band called Severed Serenity. A couple horror soundtracks for Indie films. Have produced and engineered and on rare occassions sang.. Toured twice with Thor and played/wrote etc... on 5 albums. ( Rock/Metal) Collector and fan of music in general (sort of like a disease). |

I'm playing keyboards in an all instrumental blues band that's just going to play some live shows, maybe record one album but in a little while I'll be starting a band that's definitely progressive but wouldn't really be classified as progressive rock. Pur a prog keyboardist, blues guitarist and punk drummer/singer together and see what happens.

1. Between wanna-be-pro and at home messing around
2. I hope to have a couple songs online by Christmastime
3. I play guitar, bass when necessary
4. I REALLY want to be able to play piano/keys well. I like to screw around with the piano, but in reality, I have no idea what I'm doing
5. Yes, I play Prog. Specifically, it could best be described as Heavy Prog according to this site.

I recorded a cd titled Lighthouse Summer in 2004. The production is low-fi. It sold more in Hungary than other places. I believe it still might be on CD Baby I don't know. But it can be sampled there. ZNR Records carried it and Greg Walker on Synphonic music website has maybe 2 copies. Nick Tate reviewed it in Progression Magazine back in 2004. I guess it might have a Camel/Anthony Phillips style. I am not a singer/songwriter or a great composer. I am an idea person. If I worked with a prog unit I could contribute ideas mainly.
I released another cd titled The Arrival Of Nightmares which shows a completely diverse style in my music and my playing. Most of the cd came together in my head during a 10 year span of composing horror film scores for low budget B films for film students in college. |

I'm an at-home-messin'-around-in-my-spare-time guitarist and keyboard player. I've been playing keyboard since I was a kid, but I've only taken up the guitar in the last 3 years or so. Teaching myself, so I can put off them dreaded barre chords.

Cool thread, I'll have to browse through it when I have more time.
I started playing jazz piano a little less than a year ago, though I've had on and off past experience. Definitely a wanna-be pro, I've only been able to play with others a few chance times and its always given me a high nothing else can bring me. I'm working hard and taking any opportunity I can get now. So far I know a few jazz standard tunes here and there, my proudest achievements so far are my own arrangement of Zappa's 'Blessed Relief' and I also taught myself the intro to Maneige's Mambo Chant by ear, that was a tough one . Currently working on writing some of my own stuff, and Chick Corea's Spain. My goal right now is to get some jazz-fusion related project going, once I get the skill level up a bit more. Only issue is nobody seems to be into fusion anymore! I've got me some networking to do I guess. |

Are you a professional musician, semi-pro, wanna-be pro, or an at-home-messing-'round-in-my-spare-time player?
I've been playing for about 7 years now however most of it has been at home. I've been in a few bands, and also tried to start a few but didn't really get very far with any of them. I guess I would consider myself a wanna-be pro.
Have you recorded your own compositions ? Got samples online?
I'm working on writing some original stuff right now, however it's not really going that well. I really need to work on learning scales and such first as I've always overlooked that.
What instrument(s) do you play?
I play guitar primarily. I've played piano in the past.
What instrument(s) do you wish you could play?
Drums and bass. Mostly drums, they are amazing.
Do you play Prog or another type?
I play alot of Rush songs, attempt a few by Joe Satriani and I'm currently working on some Dream Theater tunes. So I would say mostly Prog.

hey Lukestark, thanks! This was when I was seventies years old. We were just a musicschoolband and we only played five songs I wrote. But don't worry. I'm busy with a pop/rock/hiphop project now (don't get scared, it's going to be OK), but I will make prog in the future as soon as I find the right people to make it with!
