^ nice speakers, but neither budget nor suited for connecting to a PC ... aren't these passive speakers?

I currently have a Creative X-Fi (the smallest model for around 100 EUR) and I'm quite satisfied with it. It processes music (including CD or mp3 playback) at 24bit/96khz and sounds terrific ... although I must say that my main motivation for buying it was computer gaming, it accelerates games like CS-Source etc..

What about your sound card Mike, what is the exact model, and how much does it cost. Any further recommendations?

You're right, at about $300 US they are not exactly the cheapest but you can spend way more and get a lot (and I mean a lot) less in the way of sound quality.  But if your talking specifically about cost the best for the lowest IMO would be the Logitech X-230 at about $35 US or the Klipsch Promedia GMX A-2.1 at around $120 US.

If you order them from Creative's site, they're 99.90€.

Yes, they have built-in woofers. They sound very good for being computer speakers, and there's nothing wrong with the low-end I assure you! Smile
