Challenge each other's yearly music choices

While I liked the idea of the three, then four, song cagematch, since I fear that like an aeroplane if this stalls too long it will all too quickly plummet to its end, I will vote for the two that I can... Or, on second thought, reading Will's post again, and because my The Cardigans Cover of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is from 1995 and the three that followed are all 1996, I will withdraw mine and vote on the three from 1996..

All good stuff, but I went with the one that I knew least: Moog Cookbook - Smells Like Teen Spirit. All are excellent at what they do and I genuinely appreciate each as much in its on way. Inspired by the humour, here is 2011's "Threw it on the Ground" by The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg reminds me somewhat of Weird Al at times).... Or actually (I am second guessing myself a lot)

Scratch that, I want to stay in around the same 90s period with a short track from Boards of Canada. This is "Roygbiv" off the 1998 BoC (not Blue oyster Cult) album Music Has the Right to Children:

A match with the three cagey contestants battling it out together, you mean? I like the smell of that, as well as your youthful spirited contestant.

^ It could be, although I would say that in this case those loungey covers of classic rock match so darned well that I wouldn't mind not worrying too much about that paltry one year difference and have those challenge each other. I knew both, and really enjoy both of them. Now I've got the urge to make a Mai Tai cocktail, but just where did I did put those little umbrellas?

^ The Allan Holdsworth video isn't working for me either, but I'll vote for Blue Oyster Cult anyway, as I've been a fan of theirs since my schooldays. I also like The Cardigans lounge version of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and staying on the subject of lounge singers, this is The Mike Flowers Pops with their jazzy version of The Doors classic, from their album, A Groovy Place (1996)

In 1983, I was a sophomore/junior in high school. I didn't know who Allan Holdsworth was and just starting to learn about "progressive rock". I was listening to album oriented rock and some metal.

I watched videos on MTV, which had a fair share of new wave/art pop music. One of my favorite bands, and still among my favorites, was Blue Õyster Cult. In 1983, they had this number. So, I'll take on Holdsworth with a favorite from back then:

Yes, thanks, this is meant to be a more communal experience than just mentioning music we like or want to share, although the one challenging another's yearly choice, generally, need not choose a favourite of the last pair. I like the idea of topics which get us listening to and commenting on each other's likes. That something I did with friends when young, and I like that kind of interaction with others (as long as it doesn't result in that sucks, your tastes are crap etc.) ;) I do recognise that Paul is very busy with listening to lots of new-to-him albums for his topics as well as listing those albums and the playlists. I've been thinking about doing a new Interactive Poll with very short songs so it shouldn't be too much of a demand on anyone. That is an idea that has been done before, but in this topic there are only two tracks that need to be listened to at a time, so I would think plenty of people could find the time -- the desire is another matter.

To be honest, I appreciate both of those last two challenged tracks each in its own way which does make choosing one really hard. I vacillated on it. Oh well, it's not the contest, or winner that matters really, that's more of an excuse of a kind to have some fun while listening and participating. I definitely had heard Songs for Insects before, and while I find it the more interesting song in a way and yesterday I was leaning towards it, today I'm not sure. I'm going to have to place the wagers and spin the roulette wheel on this, and the Casino got lucky this time (the Casino usually wins of course, and I'm not big on gambling). So I'm voting Casino, but it could be either. I figure Paul would go for the Neo-Prog one if he took the time to listen to both, which actually is making me lean that way (good thing the contest is not too serious).

^Nice track! I didn't know this. I really like what Geoff Mann did with Twelfth Night but never listened to his other work.

As it is, I do have 1992 track to challenge. This is avantgardish thrash metal. They are on PA. Title track from their debut.
