I only download if it's the only viable option. I'm a hard copy kind of guy.

I'll buy the vinyl if it is made on vinyl, if it isn't, I will buy the CD. But I will NEVER pay for files (or illegally download them.).
I do burn the CDs on my computer, though. |

CDs for my main collection, and because I have CD players everywhere and MP3 players everywhere else.
Vinyls for "trophies" or albums I can't find in other formats, but I'm much less comfortable with the format and they are much less convenient for me and more difficult to rip to mp3 for when I'm out. MP3 for the very rare case where I really want to listen to an artist but can't find any hard copy anywhere.

I prefer CDs but if the album is hard to find or too expensive, I'll download it. I have no use for iPods (yet). If I can still play CDs in my Discman, DVD player, computer or car stereo, what do I need an iPod for? Whatever mp3s I have get burned to a disc.

I use an iPod because it is portable and has 160 gigabytes and I can burn all of my Cds on it. :)

I'm old enough to remember buying vinyl in the mid to late seventies.I switched to cassettes in the early eighties only because i spent so much time listening to tunes in my car.Cd's would replace my cassettes and vinyl. I think i downloaded once,it's just not my scene i guess. All my music is on cds.Does anyone have some shelving they want to sell ?

I have more than 2000 cds. At an average of 10 tracks per album (classical or rock or anything else), I have 20000. I have 2780 songs in itunes. The math is clear. And if we count how much I actually ever use itunes, then the answer is even clearer.
So many useless words just to say I prefer cds.

I'm a convert. My CD collection has become a couple of 500 pound gorillas. I now buy MP3's from Amazon. Now that most are high quality VBR you get great quality and usually a digital art package. But I absolutely, positively will not use ITunes. I don't want to be dictated what device I use for my listening.

I use iTunes and I haven't received any order as to what to use. I like iPhones and iPods you know. Some people apparently do. And now you can even sync to iTunes with android-run devices...

First person to mention piracy in this thread will eventually die.
You know, iTunes dropped DRM for most songs over a year ago. |

CD's 99% of the time, MP3 when I can't have a CD. Vinyl as well as CD's for albums I absolutely adore.

99% CD's. If there's a specific song I'm looking for and A) don't want to buy a whole CD for and B) it's from an established/big/famous/classic artist (The Who, Van Halen, KISS, etc.) I will download it.

Cd's for me, I still have some vinyl (not much). I NEVER download. I only copy cd's for the car usually to make "best of''s" or if I need a quick copy to learn something for a gig. I always buy the cd if I like it though.

I usually prefer to buy CDs (just in case my PC takes a dump). I would probably download more if more albums could be parted out. Let's face it, some albums only have one or two good songs on them, but it's infuriating when you can't get a single song and have to purchase a whole friggin' album.
For instance, I'd really like to have "Fire" by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, but it cannot be downloaded separately as the original album is only available on import, and I don't want to pay an extortionate price for an album that is not very good simply to get one song. Bah!

I enjoy many genres and my family enjoys different ones.....So I use Zune Marketplace because I can download all day long using my Zune Pass. If I find something I really enjoy I will look for the vinyl but usually end up with a CD...my kids like CD's.
So for my situation downloading works very well and it is very affordable.....I probably buy 4-6 CD's per month and download probably 20 albums a month.

Hmmm, I suppose I'm one of the few that prefers downloads. Thank you Amazon!
It's just so much quicker than waiting for a CD (which is generally more expensive). The quality of MP3s are great. Don't get me wrong, when I see CDs at a reasonable price (which is hard, seeing as there isn't a decent record shop in miles), I jump all over. |
