Philippe, an eminent PA member, came at home recently and had the opportunity to listen to my system.
(BTW, there has been a lot of upgrades since your venue, Philippe). How did you find my sound, Philippe (compared to Mr Everybody (crappy) system)?

My system is very modest, compared to others.
But indeed it's awesome, compared to what everybody has.
There's absolutely no insult here. It's a very sad thing that most people don't listen to music at home anymore and it's mostly due to digital.
I'm also very sad for the young generations who grow up with bad music and bad sound (sub-digital), and it goes together. That's why i keep on trying to convince evrybody that good Hifi works and is a fantastic source of musical pleasure. I want to share that.

I don't see why people should feel insulted. Unless one identifies himself with an object, for instance.

I can't help myself, cause that's what it is.

That's funny - I consider my system "awesome" ( and it is) and yet you insulted that! And I know for sure that you didn't know some of my kit. Amazing ability - to hear and trash by telepathy.

It still has to be said that there are many, many combinations of kit that can produce "awesome" sounds. Not all of those will match Oliver's criteria.

Oliver - I certainly wasn't referring to MP3. Although, the premise would still apply to MP3 playback.

It's fine for i-pods and computer playback but they're a country mile from hi-fi. (Here's where Mike steps in and damns me............again   )

So what are you talking about?

i rarely listen to other people's hi fi systems, no one  i know is really interested, they have their dvd set-up and they're happy with that.

Not to disagree, but ....
When I was still in high school ( about a century or two ago), I had an old stereo that had speakers with ONE speaker each. NO Tweeter, Mid Range or subwoofer or any other animal like sound sounding name. I wired these old Radio Shack Realistic car speakers (the plastic one you put on the top behind your rear seats) to give me 4 speakers. I then played a few AC/DC & Foghat LPs. And I kid you not, I still have not heard a better sounding guitar tone since. Of course, the bass was not exactly prominent, not the drums, but the guitars sounded like buzzsaws.
But anyways, does anyone remember when Canadian speakers were considered reliably well built ?
