I was thinking about this today for some reason. I like most of his solo stuff. I could do without the Tarzan stuff or whatever but even most of his pop stuff seems good for what it is to me. Yes, I realize I'm probably the outlier here. Tongue

I like some of his stuff as well, although I rarely listen to his solo works.

Face Value and But Seriously are good albums. No Jacket Required is ok, too. Testify was a nice surprise, IMO his best since the 80s.

Hmmm..strokes beard and ponders...I bought Face Value as a loyal Genesis fan. I remember being proud he was on the TV with his paint pot. Initially quite liked the album - but as his solo career continued, Genesis continued to move away from their roots, the suit sleeves started getting rolled up, Easy Lover and You Can't Hurry Love came out, and finally the film Buster came out - I practically disowned him (sorry Phil, it wasn't personal - it's just business!). Thankfully his contribution to classic or even mid-period Genesis shines brightly still for me - and as you get older you get more forgiving of any errors of judgement.

Liked his stuff with Brand X though!

Of course I'm aware of Brand X but he didn't sing on any of those as far as I know. I don't consider them solo albums either. I only technically had Genesis in the poll because I figured there was some who liked his work with Genesis but not solo. Hope this makes sense(at least to some of you. LOL).

My fave Brand X album, "Product" has Phil's vocals all over it...I don't think he sang on any others though Wink

Ya know....if one of his songs come on the radio I'll listen...but I don't own any of his solo lp's.

As with most pop artists, I only like a few songs a lot and the less stellar ones are just forgettable... though I usually am not interested enough to dig too deep into their discography either.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I was totally unaware.

I have to go with the majority on this one (Damn! What is this world coming to?) Some but not all. As I explained to a hardcore Phil Collins solo works fan once, for the most part, '80s pop really isn't my thing but for what it was, he did it exceedingly well. IOW, I can appreciate his talent even if I do not care for the style. And I am a big fan of Phil's vocal work with Genesis overall. The later poppy stuff, not as much, but even the last few albums had the occasional "bone" to throw to us old fans.

I'm a big fan of Brand X and agree,  don't class this as a solo effort.  Yes, Phil created the band and was at his prime back then Smile

Not a huge fan of Phil's solo works here, but I do own a greatest hits album of his...  Smile..  After Steve Hackett left Genesis,  got confused with Phil's solo work and Genesis to be honest!!....Confused

A couple of his early songs are pretty good but overall I'm not a fan. Once he got to stuff like Sussudio, that was it and don't get me started on other stuff like Against All Odds and Another Day in Paradise. Dead

It really amazes me that a guy who was in prog Genesis and Brand X could write entire albums of pop tripe but hey he sold a lot of records so good for him in that regard
