^ Haha, I was literally just about to post the exact same album but you beat me by 30 seconds. I'd probably also recommend Wobbler.

Here's some recommendations for you.
Landberk's first album, melancholic and beautiful stuff, not as complex as Anglagård, but has some of the same vibe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynt6aJzw_RI White Willow - Ignis Fatuus. Their first album is obligatory listening if you like scandinavian 90s prog revival: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y7eRmSoSBw Norwegian band The Chronicles of Father Robin have only released one 12" ep in 2013, but their roots go way back to the early 90s. This is the title track, Twilight Fields. Just beautiful. The vocalist and keyboardist from Wobbler. https://soundcloud.com/tcofr/the-chronicles-of-father-robin Norwegian band Nordagust and their album "In the mist of morning" is definitely within the nordic melancholic prog rock. Beautiful, lots of mellotron. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyWO_Fk24io&t=653s Opeth "Heritage" has a lot of folky, melancholic scandi-prog as well. Ragnarök's first album is really beautiful and melancholic. The swedes are very good at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxZ69T6Eewk Kultivator also has some of that melancholic folky feeling that we all like. A bit more in the Zeuhl/jazz department, but really, really good! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP0q3u6F0M4

I'm not a very big fan of any of these bands anymore, they haven't aged too well for me..
But, Anglagard was majorly inspired by the track Pictures from SBB, so figure I could recommend that album! (Symphonic Pictures) Edited by Raccoon - September 25 2017 at 02:32 |

Well, if we're going down the 'he was in one of the bands you like' route I get an excuse to post something from one of my very favourite albums of the last ten years:

Il Balleto di Bronzo's YS comes to my mind. Of course King Crimson, but that's a given. Perhaps you already know them, but Van Der Graaf Generator too. Bacamarte's "Depois do Fim".

Is there any way to get Landberk's first album, "Riktigt Akta"? I have sort of searched for it and just won't find it. I mean, the first swedish version, I believe it was re-recorded in english (Lonely Land?) and I think that one is easier to get. |

^ Any LANDBERK album is difficult to obtain, esp. on vinyl. Good Luck !!
TUSMORKE is another winner. Wish I could post clips......... |

^ Yep, if you like violin & cello (and some sax and a little tuba!) in your music then this will be a good album for you. Every track is gold IMO.
BTW I suggested it because Mathias Danielsson from Gosta Berlings Saga, which you mentioned in your original post, was one of the main men in this project. |

My recommendation is Utopian Fields, 1989, from Norway. ![]() |

White Willow and Wobbler would be obvious choices imo. Also a US band from the seventies called Cathedral. Not sure who else off the top of my head.

Anglagard is one of my favourite bands, and for me the band that could come close is Wobbler, though I like a lot most of the bands that all you have written about... except Maxwell's Demon: when I learnt that it was dedicated to Anglagard I went for it but was extremely disappointed, it's like if you take the worst bits from some King Crimson albums and try to do a long suite with them; really really bad.

You can also try OBIYMY DOSCHU. They are now 3rd in the year 2017 top list, and they deserve it.
They are not exactly Scandinavians, but they approach is similar, I guess, and their music has solid folk foundation. Probably Kaipa would be the closest comparison?
