^ Haha, I was literally just about to post the exact same album but you beat me by 30 seconds. I'd probably also recommend Wobbler.

Here's some recommendations for you.
Landberk's first album, melancholic and beautiful stuff, not as complex as Anglagård, but has some of the same vibe:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynt6aJzw_RI
White Willow - Ignis Fatuus. Their first album is obligatory listening if you like scandinavian 90s prog revival:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y7eRmSoSBw
Norwegian band The Chronicles of Father Robin have only released one 12" ep in 2013, but their roots go way back to the early 90s. This is the title track, Twilight Fields. Just beautiful. The vocalist and keyboardist from Wobbler.
Opeth "Heritage" has a lot of folky, melancholic scandi-prog as well.
Ragnarök's first album is really beautiful and melancholic. The swedes are very good at this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxZ69T6Eewk
Kultivator also has some of that melancholic folky feeling that we all like. A bit more in the Zeuhl/jazz department, but really, really good!

I'm not a very big fan of any of these bands anymore, they haven't aged too well for me..
But, Anglagard was majorly inspired by the track Pictures from SBB, so figure I could recommend that album! (Symphonic Pictures)

Yeah, and Shylock if I remember correctly.

Really good stuff!

May I suggest KURKI (from Finland) Also MORTE MACABRE (members of Anglagard and Anekdoten) PAATOS (from the ashes of Landberk) WHITE WILLOW (especially the album Ignis Fatuus)

Well, if we're going down the 'he was in one of the bands you like' route I get an excuse to post something from one of my very favourite albums of the last ten years:

Il Balleto di Bronzo's YS comes to my mind. Of course King Crimson, but that's a given. Perhaps you already know them, but Van Der Graaf Generator too. Bacamarte's "Depois do Fim".

Is there any way to get Landberk's first album, "Riktigt Akta"? I have sort of searched for it and just won't find it. I mean, the first swedish version, I believe it was re-recorded in english (Lonely Land?) and I think that one is easier to get.

^ Any LANDBERK album is difficult to obtain, esp. on vinyl. Good Luck !!
TUSMORKE is another winner. Wish I could post clips.........

I'm listening to these bands, some are very good
It is so lucky to have such a music worth exploring

^ Yep, if you like violin & cello (and some sax and a little tuba!) in your music then this will be a good album for you. Every track is gold IMO.
BTW I suggested it because Mathias Danielsson from Gosta Berlings Saga, which you mentioned in your original post, was one of the main men in this project.

I got my copy as a Picture disc on Record heaven label(RHPD1) (I also got Anekdotan Vemod at the same time) and I think it was available on black vinyl but that was about 2003..
My recommendation is Utopian Fields, 1989, from Norway.

White Willow and Wobbler would be obvious choices imo. Also a US band from the seventies called Cathedral. Not sure who else off the top of my head.

Stained Glass Stories is beautiful. Lots of nice melodies, brilliant musicians! And of course, lots of Mello.

Anglagard is one of my favourite bands, and for me the band that could come close is Wobbler, though I like a lot most of the bands that all you have written about... except Maxwell's Demon: when I learnt that it was dedicated to Anglagard I went for it but was extremely disappointed, it's like if you take the worst bits from some King Crimson albums and try to do a long suite with them; really really bad.

You can also try http://www.progarchives.com/google-search-results.asp?q=Obiymy%20Doschu%20Son%20intitle:tabs&cx=partner-pub-0447992028883143:famh54-xa49&cof=FORID:10&ie=ISO-8859-1" rel="nofollow - OBIYMY DOSCHU . They are now 3rd in the year 2017 top list, and they deserve it.
They are not exactly Scandinavians, but they approach is similar, I guess, and their music has solid folk foundation. Probably Kaipa would be the closest comparison?

Man I'm so interested in this thread, especially with our Jordsjo friend helping us out. Some already that I didn't know about so thanks all! These three aren't as full on Sinkadus or Anekdoten-like but they have those influences for sure... Book Of Hours- Art To The Blind featuring the Zell brothers who would go on to form Wolverine. Liquid Scarlet's debut Qoph's Pyrola is another one. Three bands from Sweden.

I only have the compilation released by Panorama records a few years ago, nice sound! Not as complex as our Swedish friends, though...

I have to watch this thread closely aswell.
Until then, my suggestions are:
Beardfish
and
Rikard Sjöblom
Rikard Sjöblom's Gungfly (I'm a huge fan of last year's album)

If you really like mellotron and are not afraid of lighter more romantic progrock, maybe Barclay James Harvest is worth checking out.
There's lots and lots of mellotron, especially in their first period 1969-1973. But there's some great stuff in the period 1974-1978 aswell.
Maybe one of the best mellotron-prog-songs I know is "Ra" from "Octoberon":

Areknames from Italy are definitely in the same vein as the three Swedish bands in the title of this thread; drawing on that King Crimson/VDGG/ Gnidrolog spring of inspiration with a more modern twist. This one (Love Hate Round Trip) is my favorite but 'in case of loss' is also a good introduction.

Hmmm... Mentioning Barclay Harvest James in a thread about Änglagård, Sinkadus & Anekdoten? Well, maybe. I love the song "Galadriel", but it might not be what the author of the thread is looking for.

Big big vote for From Silence To Somewhere by Wobbler. A nice heavy dosage of several classic 70s prog bands but done in a refreshing and modern way. Can't fault the album really.

Hi, I'm just following up on a post you made some time ago. The link that you included with the post is broken. You wrote:

Can you tell me which was the album you are referring to. I can't seem to find it and I'd really like to give it a listen.
Many thanks,
John

I've enjoyed reading through this thread and have found lots to explore. Änglagård are one of my favorite bands. I even had the pleasure of meeting them in Stockholm 11 years ago.
I've seen the phrase 'Skogs Prog' used to describe the sort of Scandi Prog that they play, and as I understand it Skogs Prog is typically made in the style of Prog from the classic period in early 1970s. It uses lots of mellotron, sometimes acoustic instruments, but not always, and more often than not includes musical references to Nordic folk music.
This stuff has got me through lockdown. Here is a list of some of the Nordic-Scandi Prog/Skogs Prog bands that I recommend to fans of Anekdoten, Sinkadus, Änglagård...
From Sweden: Agusa, Hollow Earth, Liquid Scarlet
From Norway: Wudewuse, Jordsjo, Caligonaut, Arabs in Aspic, Elds Mark, D'Accord, Ring Van Mobius
From Finland: Malady, Sammal, Orne
From Denmark: Vaerket (recommend their 1st album)
From Iceland: Eldberg (recommend their 2nd album)
