^ Farnsworth, as you can read all my previous posts about how much I hate that man was actually lights out in Detriot. I think they might anticipate his return.
Some people just can't play New York baseball. Look at Randy Johnson. |
You'll have to trust me on this one, but we really do not want Farnsworth back. I went to the board on the Tigers website as soon as I saw this trade and believe me the fans are seeing red over this trade. Rumor is that on the Yankees board they are having a pretty good laugh over how Cashman suckered the Tigers. The only thing that I can think of is that they offered Dumbrowski Cashman's job when they finally decide to replace him.

Yankees are coming out as big-time trade deadline winners! Kyle was by far my least favorite member of that suddenly stellar Yankees bullpen, and Pudge is still amongst the best catchers in the league, even if he lost some of his power when he dropped 40 pounds during the steroid crackdown. And I still can't believe that they got Nady and Marte for Ross Olendorf

I'm beginning to think that Baseball is as fixed as Basketball. The final season at Yankee Stadium, the MLB front office wants the World Series to go through there. Just imagine the Hollywood story. A little bit of palm greasing to urge teams to make stupid trades to the Yankees in order to make them better. Sounds a little bit like what happens amongst friends in a fantasy league, when one friend whose team is out of it trades their best players to their friend's team who is in the hunt.

The Twins put their 2nd baseman Alexi Casilla on the disabled list so now they are looking for a 2nd baseman. Rumor is that after hearing about the Pudge trade, Minnesota's GM called David Dumbrowski and offered Craig Monroe for Placido Polanco. I think that Dumbrowski might consider it. After all, Monroe is a former Tiger, and we already have a logjam in Left Field, so why not add one more.

I know! The Yanks have driven me crazy the last few years....but I can only applaud what they've done so far. Kept they're team going through some major injuries, the Nady and Marte trade you mentioned and 1 for 1 trade? I-Rod for Kyle Farnsworth!??? I can't even believe it

Brian Roberts could be a possibility for the Twins to grab; he's been on the market for some time now.

I just don't understand how that trade happened though. Maybe it had to do with saleries? Farnsworth and Pudge can't be considered equals, or is Pudge not doing too well?
The Yankees are supposed to have a huge salary drop by the end of this year. With Mussina and Giambi's contracts ending they sure are going to have a lot of extra cash. I don't really feel the need for them to come back, although I do like Giambi.
I hope Hughes can quickly get his groove going and replace Ponsone, then when Wang replaces Razner thats a serious force.
I love Brian Cashman in every sense of the word, probably because I consider ourselves alike. I am all business and don't hesitate to get the best and by any methods. His last name is perfect complementary of him. The only problem is a think he played a part in getting rid of Torre, he really wasn't a fan of him.

From a general point of view...it's a valid argument.
But, in reality the best players does not equal best team. The Yankees know that better then any other team in the history of sports.
Look at the New York Mets and Detroit Tigers. Both teams had such great years, though a little short-lived. Both teams are more 'stacked' and have a hell of a higher payroll then there previous years. They did anything but improve.

^ That's for sure. Seems like the Yanks are having their best year thus far of their last few...and this time they're NOT going after every big name and trying to buy a championship team. I don't buy the fixed baseball thing, I know it's an easy thing to say to explain the Yankees inevitably sucking up everyone, but sorry it's just not true.
And if you want proof baseball is not fixed think about this.....2001 World Series Yankees....New York....9/11 that has the quintessential feel good, scripted story right there....but I believe they lost to the "who are the Diamondbacks?"

For the most part I would doubt the fixed baseball thing too. Bad calls get made either way, but it comes down to what the players do on the field. But you have to admit that the two trades that the Yankees made this year both appear to be quite lopsided in their favor and it is hard to believe that both the Tigers and the Pirates general managers/Presidents were stupid enough to make these trades without some sort of outside influence.
That being said the Tigers fell behind 8-1 against Cliff Lee and the Indians, they managed to score 4 runs in the top of the 9th inning to take a 12-11 lead, and then their "new" closer Fernando Rodney proceeded to blow the save. It is now 12-12 going in to the 11th inning. I really wish that the Tigers had a lights out closer like Rivera, Rodriguez, or Jenks. It is so frustrating game in and game out not knowing whether or not the bullpen will be able to hold a lead or not. Maybe Farnsworth will be that guy, but his history says otherwise.
Edit: It is now 12-12 going in to the 12th inning. Tomorrow's game starts at noon, so it's getting closer and closer to both teams taking catnaps in the locker room before going back on the field.

The Indians had the bases loaded and nobody out against Casey Fossum in the bottom of the 12th and couldn't score. Shoppach struck out (he set/tied a record with 5 extra base hits today) and Andy Marte grounded into a double play. 12-12 going in to the 13th inning.

Tigers lead 14-12 going in to the bottom of the 13th. With men on 1st and 3rd and 1 out Polanco hit a hit-and-run grounder to short with Granderson running to 2nd to stay out of the double play. There might have been a play at the plate but they went to first with it instead. Joyce then hit a grounder in the hole at 1st and Gonzalez threw the ball away so Granderson scored.
Casey Fossum walked the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the inning however, so the fat lady may be warming up but she isn't singing yet.

The fat lady is now singing. The Tigers won 14-12. What a huge come from behind win. Good to gain a game on the Twins and stay even with the Sox. Verlander versus Fausto Carmona tomorrow. It should be a pitcher's duel, but who would have thought the Tigers would score 14 runs on the day that Cliff Lee pitched?

My brilliant fantasy pickup of the year Chad Billingsley just finished a five-hit shutout of the Giants.

Well....it's official. Manny is off the Red Sox!!!! At first i was surprised, I mean they put up with his bullsh*t for all these years because of his amazing production, so why do it now? But my brother, who's a red sox fan, has told me Manny basically stopped trying. That he was taking 6 seconds to WALK to first base....
I've never liked Manny for a lot of reasons, and this is it....what an ass. I mean we all hear storied of athlete tired with your team, but if you wanna play baseball stick it out till the end then do your business. IMO the guy is a 100% jerk, and I actually feel bad for the Sox.....they had no choice.

I have and always will be a Manny Ramirez fan...even before his baggy pants and hair. He is such an excellent hitter, and he can back up his mouth...unlike Gary Sheffield.

Griffey goes to the Sox. These must be the craziest trades of all time.

As a Dodger fan I am interested to see how this plays out. While it looks like nothing LaRoche was a decent third base prospect and the pitcher was a first round pick 2 years ago but this team needed a power bat and they have it. With Penny coming back this should give them the division. If it is doesn't work out they didn't pay his salary and he walks at the end of the year. La Roche didn't figure into the plans after trading for Casey Blake so the only real loss was Morris.
I just wonder who gets sat down between Pierre and Eithier. I hope it is Pierre. I like him but Either is a better all around player.
