Well, well well...
Another house on this street was broken into. The thief thought it was empty, but there was an old man inside sleeping.
The punk fled, running through our backyard and the backyard of our neighbors, escaping to the house on the corner. The woman across the street from us witnessed this and telephoned the police as her husband went to confront the people personally (foolish move I think). The couple (so I'm told) played dumb, but tried to flee before the cops arrived. I'm told the cops got the girl, who was driving, but the male took off on foot into the woods.
A horde of police officers are around that house. There is hope we will see our property again.
It saddens me though, because these people have children.

You lead such an exciting life, Rob. My apartment was broken into once, but I came home before they could finish robbing me and they they fled with only a drawer full of change (estimated value $5) while leaving my laptop and guitar completely untouched. As trivial as that was, it was very unnerving to have my home violated like that. I can only imagine how you must feel.

The police have had that house surrounded now for well over 8 hours. There are police surrounding the neighborhood as well.
There's an incredible possibility that our things are just three houses away, and that, if they don't hold anything for evidence, we may get back soon.
Either way, it's good to see up close that something is happening.
Also, our 8-year anniversary dinner was overpriced, but very delicious.

I just saw this thread Rob and i'm so sorry to hear that. We always lock our doors up here too but if someone wants in they'll get in.As a kid growing up here my parents never locked the door which is hard to imagine nowadays. The only incident was getting up one morning and seeing this guy passed out on our couch in the living room.My dad proceeded to throw him out on his ass.We live in a tourist town and the guy was obviously a drunk tourist and probably didn't know what he was doing.

Yeah, closest thing to an intruder at my place was a drunk guy passing out on our lawn.

The closest we've had is someone stealing our generator out of our garage one winter.

Sorry this happened. I hope you get your belongings back. It's probably a good thing that you did not confront them personally. If it's drug related and they are selling stolen mechandise for drug money then you don't know just what kind of twisted individuals you are dealing with. Nothing of that nature is worth putting your life on the line for. This happened to me long ago and my equipment was confiscated by detectives after they filmed the robbers on camera attempting to sell it. But this was a series of break-ins by a drug ring which gave police the determination to work undercover. Actually this was someone who had been in my house. Someone I knew....and the police had told me that in most cases it's someone you know or someone who has been to your house at least once. I don't agree with that totally because there are those who jog up and down the street scoping out your house and observing your routine patterns and they don't know you and you are just another number.

Sorry that you got broken into and robbed but it is good that there's a possibility that they got the miscreants that did it. I do hope that you get all your things back.

We just saw somebody in a green shirt creep through the backdoor on the house on the corner.
I have called 911 and the police are on the way. I'm watching the house to make sure no one leaves (though I cannot see the front).
The f**kers want to watch us so they can take from us...two can play that game.

Damn it- the police left. A little later I saw the guy in the green shirt again, and I called once more. The dispatcher told me that the guy is a boy who lives there (he looks like a teenager to me).
I wish I knew more about who lived there, who was involved in criminal activity, and what the status of this case is (I mean, we still don't know if the people in that house are responsible for the burglary that occurred in our home).
Just wish we knew more.

Do you have a good watch dog? If you don't you should consider that an alternative. I hope to God they catch these smucks. What I hate the most is the fact they are on a mission. That really gets my blood boiling. Good luck to you. I was just wondering if you considered this: They would have to be stupied ...to come back. Re-enter your home. Would they not be afraid of being caught by the police? Usually they go for a road where the first house spotted may sit on a hill and the one built next to it is back in the woods. Their crafty little plots go with the territory. I keep a baseball bat hidden next to my back door in case I am awoken by a freak fooling about in the yard. Although I live in a historical town where there is not much of a call for robbery there are registered child molesters here. I wished you knew for sure if those people in the house were responsible. Hopefully you may find out soon. A quicker method of them getting busted is for the cops to suspect they are indulging in drug consumption. Good luck to you and your family.

Like I said, I just wish I knew what relationship that house has with the robberies that have taken place on this street.

That sucks. I've become quite obsessive/compulsive about locking my place whenever I leave - reminds me of Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets at times - especially since my apartement is at ground level, so anyone could relatively easily break in through the windows. Usually the place is a mess though, so anyone peeking through the window is not likely to see anything worth stealing.
