I play guitar, and have been doing so far the past 5 years (i'm 19). I used to play saxomophone and i wouldn't mind picking that up again later on down the track, along with Trumpet, Drums, Clarinet, Violin, Voice, Flute, Didgeridoo and a few others i'm sure

I played guitar in a band many years ago. Still play some, plus some
keyboards. And hand drums. |

1. Mostly at home now, messing around in my spare time (I have spare time?)
2. No compositions
3. Drums - listed the kit under the Drum kit thread...
4. I wish I could play electric guitar like Hackett (in my dreams...)
5. I enjoy messing around mostly with prog, but some good hard rock (like Cream or Zeppelin) is always fun to pound out on the drums.
Thanks for this thread. It was fun to answer those questions...

I think a good percentage of us here are musicians. I play guitar. I can play bass, but I realize that every second spent playing another instrument detracts from my potential prowess at playing guitar. I've been playing for 6 years, but I haven't been part of a successful band yet. I play on my spare time, which is basically all the time! I kind of wish I could play drums, but i'm happy with being a guitarist. I play jazz fusion type stuff and prog...lots of prog! I have heavy classical influences and a mild world influence. I believe that myself as a guitarist is at the very core of my identity. |

At various times I wanted to be a professional orchestra/chamber ensemble percussionist (I'm classically trained) or a famous rock drummer, but not anymore-- I'm happy just making music for fun.
Not compositions exactly; my old improv trio has some stuff on Myspace at /acidophilusrex that we did using chance operations (dice mechanics) to determine the parameters of what we did (tempo, meter, key/mode, section length, etc.)

I play guitar, but only for 2 years and even for that time I'm quite sucky. To some level I think I kinda prefer composing, but I'm not really sure what i like more. I'd really like to improve my guitar skill though. It's gotten way past the point where a "practice" involves learning that interesting riff i heard once. I compose, initially in MIDI format on Guitar Pro.. but i eventually finalise these and experiment and crap on FL Studio, although at school I have to use Sonar which in some ways is better but I'm more used to FL. The stuff i compose on FL usually ends up being weird experimental electronica pissabourts, whilst the MIDI stuff is more prog-metal stylie. If i had a practical means of recording my guitar I'd be inclined to incorporate that a lot more.

Been playing electric guitar since high school. Currently, my main focus is on bebop and fusion.
...and trying to incorporate elements of the above into my prog metal playing...

I play the guitar for 14 years, and other instruments, I'm currently working on my first album which is really great but really hard too. I write long songs with different atmospheres but I wouldn't dare to call it prog ;)

I am classically-trained on percussion, but I have been playing guitar since the age of 10. I also play bass and keyboards.

1. Home recordist - do it just for the love of music these days, but I've played semi-pro at different points in my musical life. 2. Yes - myspace.com/casellastudio , which links back to my MySpace music "Jaydubz". 3. Woodwinds, reeds, EWI, WX, keys, tuned percussion, theremin...and I dabble in fretted strings (currently learning mandolin). Main instruments: flute/piano (45+ years)
4. The next instruments I want to "tackle" are Celtic harp and sitar.
5. My music has progressive elements to it, but it's not a pure progressive - more of a hybrid of styles.

I've been playing Drums for 30 years but I haven't really touched them for 5 years. I had to leave the last band I was in due to work comitments and never seemed to have got round to playing again. I still keep getting the urge to go back to it but I'd need a good musically interesting band to get me off my butt and into action again.

Guitars and keyboard here. Don't touch my electric or keyboard all that frequently, but the acoustic is always at hand.

To answer your questions: I'm a pro musician (teach and perform) I have recordings online. I play kybds but wish I was better at guitar. I play a wide variety of music, but the music I have online now is acid jazz. You can check us out at myspacemusic.com/zazerac

Semi-pro drummer, mess around on a sweet 70's Farfisa organ now and again. Started playin' on an electric get about 3 years ago, but i've since got myself a Pearl Export. Influenced mainly by Phil Collins and Terry Bozzio, obviously not of their standard though, hehe

I'm a not too bad for an average player kind of guitarist. Whenever people ask me what I can play, song-wise, I always paraphrase an old Johnny Cash quote - I know about a thousand songs, but I can only sing about 12. Unfortunately, no drummers close by, and none in sight. THIS is the best way to get people playing is to announce you have a drummer & a jam space. Still keep plugging away. There a bunch of friends who jam about an hour's drive away. But I kinda screwed myself with them. I started jamming with them when the drummer & bassist were just learning. So the other guitarist was happy to have someone who could actually play. The first few times I went, they spoiled me by letting me just rip, song after song after song, until the night's done. I let that go to my head, started having a few too many beers & when they started bucking down to learning actual songs, I couldn't contain my enthusiasm. They'd have to shush me up, make me turn my sound down & finally let me know through back channels that I was welcome, but to understand that they only had so much patience.
But I got a second chance now, with another group of friends. More loose, more fun with the boys type of thing. This time, I'm applying the lessons learnt. I'm 45 & would dearly love to be in a band. |

I play piano, keyboards, melodica, accordion, along with various keyboard percussion instruments (xylophone, marimba, etc.)
i'm working on learning how to play bass someday i'd like to add bagpipe, cello, violin, theremin, kantele, and a host of instruments to that list. my main band is a metal band called nitrofox and i have a prog solo project in the works that you can listen to at the links in my signature. as for level, i guess you could say i'm a wanna-be pro, as i am not professional at this point but am searching for any break i can get.
