lol, it would be great if that atheist vs theist thread ended like this instead of going on and creating tension for more than 200 pages.

Just like the legalization of marijuana, no one really cares Drew.

Nice tie in?

Drugs are a link between God and Man.  Discuss.

Not that far fetched actually.
Well, at least I've heard ideas like that expressed.

IF God didn't want us to smoke Marijuana, then why did he make it easily cultivatable and accessable?

There are many religions that use drugs for that purpose. One example: a 20th century Brazilian religion.

Shame Ivan is gone....

Not sure if you're serious Joel but:
I would like to ask him why marijuana should be illegal when it grows naturally on the planet. It's not made in some factory and filled with hundreds of chemicals and poisons.
Same with shrooms.

If God created the Earth and everything then why are those things illegal?

Abuse of prescription drugs is obviously the same as illegal drug abuse. But the goal of prescription drugs is to bring your consciousness closer to "normal", not beyond that. Similarly, caffeine (in normal doses) does not have a significant impact on your consciousness, so it's silly to bring it (or Tylenol) up when someone is being a pain in the ass about illegal drugs. I am aware normal is an extremely slippery term.

I really have trouble seeing how a chemical reaction can help you transcend this mortal plane.

Agreed.  Doctors just pollute your body with square mainstream drugs so you can be part of the system.  Marijuana helps you pierce through the veil.

Uh...that sounds like generic stoner bullsh*t. Pierce through what f**king veil? All it does is make you feel good and be lazy. No drug makes you pierce through any veil or any other mumbo jumbo like that, unless you consider marveling at how easily manipulated the chemical receptors in your brain are "piercing the veil."

So, basically, this is how you feel about it?

if you own a sodastream i hate you

Well this is something I do believe.

The platypus?

He had a wicked sense of humor, but that's for another thread.

Damn how did I miss this discussion? Hate working sundays...

I can't believe that people are so convinced that what the law says is sacrosanct because apparently we wrote it. I used to say things that were almost similar to this but even I reckognized laws didn't have value per se. Laws have a value when they help make protection of rights better, not when they complicate everything, create a whole subworld of danger, imprison millions of people some of which otherwise would be productive, increase violence (people will go to further extremes in order to avoid getting caught - also, the fact that something is illegal puts in the user the idea that if he doesn't "score" every chance he has it might be the last chance he ever has to score, obviously forcing him to act more irrationally), creates an entire problem for everybody, generates horrible drug cartels in third world countries that are now pretty much ruled by them (north Mexico), while people STILL GET GODDAMN HIGH BECAUSE THEY SO WANT.

Legalize everything. Actually, that's poorly expressed. Nothing should be "legal". Some things might be "punishable" but saying something is "legal" means I have to thank somebody for allowing me to do something. Just eliminate these stupid regulations and people, free to choose, will do so in their best interest. Yes, some will become addicts but, hey, maybe they will remain productive to a degree since they are not put in jail to turn them in actual criminals. And if they become waste, so be it. It was their choice.

I'm starting to almost feel repulsion when I think that I used to use the excuse of "society" to justify imposing my morals and my view of how things "should be" to everybody else. Just like a person can't function properly psychologically if all he has in his mind is a lot of "i should be this" ego complexes that don't allow him to actually BE something, so do "should be" laws and regulations and moral prohibitions stop people from just BEING, in peace, respecting the others' right to be as much of a waste or a success as they can and want to be.

The first step though is to tear down the religion of dependency. Not really talking about the god-related ones, but those that preach the absolute necessity of certain things that are engraved in most people's psyche as irrefutable truths.
