Sorry to read about this Robert. But see the bright side: nobody was there, nobody was hurt. The things they stole you'll eventually replace. And the thief, he will eventually pay for his crimes. It's a fact. A life of crime and theft leads to two bad outcomes. You, on the other hand, have much more to cherish, you have things so much more important than just stuff...
Now, I wonder if there ever was a thief who stole beer...

The situation is more dire than I expected.
I saw the next door neighbors come home, so I threw on my shoes and went to meet them. They have two young boys who play basketball with the (neon) white kid across the street after school. They were incensed when I relayed our story. Why? They were robbed of $3,000 worth of property exactly one month ago. |

That sounds quite likely and logical. At least that gives some type of idea where to start looking for clues. And, specially, who to be extra cautious about. When conditions allow for it, of course, that might also signal that moving out of that particular location may be a good idea, though of course this is a lot easier to say than to do.

If they broke into my house I wouldn't mind if they take my tv but if they touch just one CD I will totally start my own vigilante team.
Actually, as David says, feeling invaded, knowing that someone entered into your place without permission and grabbed what you work to get, that must be horrible. But people who start on the wrong track end on the wrong place. Sadly, that doesn't bring back the items but at least you know life will cash somebody's checks. |

Sorry to hear that, Robert... and thanks God you and family are OK and it's the most important.
I ask you to keep both eyes wide open. This kind of thieves don't go blindly checking houses in a street to see if one is "suitable". In general they lived or worked in the neighborhood or got the information from someone who lived or worked close to your block. BTW, do you know if there's any surveillance cameras around?

It happened to my parents when I was a child & I remember them saying it wasn't the theft as such (not that we had much to take), it was the fact someone had been in their house & invaded their space. Karma will out! |

Indeed- the idea that someone you've never seen has been in your home, viewed your belongings, knows the lay of your house, and- worst of all- knows what your children look like and where they sleep- is quite harrowing.

That's terrible, terrible, terrible news, I hope you and your family are doing ok.
Do you still need a TV? This might sound odd, and I don't know a lot about this service, but could set up a 'ChipIn' kinda thing? You know where bands take donations online to fund their albums? I'd donate something - and I bet others here who could do so would. Not sure whether it's hassle to set up, fees etc but thought I'd suggested it. |

Sorry to hear your bad news. It makes my blood boil that low life vermin like this seem to get away with it more often than not and when they do get caught nothing much happens to them. I recently heard on the news that here in the UK a burgular was stabbed to death when breaking into a property. I'm not ashamed to say I was glad to hear it - one less low life is okay with me. It's the poor sod he was robbing that I feel for who'll probably get done for manslaughter.

Well, well well...
Another house on this street was broken into. The thief thought it was empty, but there was an old man inside sleeping. The punk fled, running through our backyard and the backyard of our neighbors, escaping to the house on the corner. The woman across the street from us witnessed this and telephoned the police as her husband went to confront the people personally (foolish move I think). The couple (so I'm told) played dumb, but tried to flee before the cops arrived. I'm told the cops got the girl, who was driving, but the male took off on foot into the woods. A horde of police officers are around that house. There is hope we will see our property again. It saddens me though, because these people have children. |

Dang Rob, that sucks. It seems the people who get robbed are the ones who least deserve it. Hopefully you can set up some neighborhood watch or do something to stop this person from ruining more lives.
