The Original 1960's Fender Strats are the best in my opinion, worth around $30,000 each though. The Orginal Les Pauls are okay too, and the 70's Richenbacker Bass, the one Chris Squire has

Gotta love those PRS guitars. Whatever the style a PRS player plays, it sounds good !
For basses, Fender Jazz, Ernie Ball Music Man, Warwick, Alembic and Rickenbacker are the best.

I play Gibson Les Paul and Fender Telecaster. They each have their own style, and I frequently change between them, when I play gigs. Was thinking about buying a PRS custom 24 in my next purchase...

PRS isn't bad, but I've begun to prefer custom crafters who deliver an instrument of better quality at the same price. Guys like Ed Reynolds, David Thomas McNaught, and even a factory direct custom crafter (hand crafted in a factory) like Carvin gives a better quality instrument than PRS. Smith really sold out when Guitar Center started carrying his guitars.
The thing that's nice about a PRS,DTM, or ER is that it has the quality tone of a Les Paul, but it's manageable enough to play on a show for as long as you need to.

You must mean the Warwick Katana. Fender has never made a model called Katana.
Anyways, my Fender Jazz Bass is perfect. Sure, everyone has one, but
for an obvious reason: it's great. They play themselves and they've got

would expect from a bass costing at least twice as much.
I enjoy fancier stuff like Warwicks, Ibanez Prestiges, Carvins and
similair high end basses, but the Fender Jazz Bass will always be my
favourite. Because you don't really need anything more than the Jazz
Bass can give you. And even the top-of-the-line versions are affordable
in comparison to the above mentioned brands. Fender invented the
electric bass; they know how to do it right.

PRS guitars are amazing. And they're kept behind the counter at the guitar store for a reason (at least where I live).

I've got an Ibanez S-something. It's been discontinued, I believe. It's got a really lightweight body and is quite thing, but has great tone! It's just excellent, but I wish it had 24 frets (it's only got 22), and a few frets are buzzy, but it's really easy to work around. Easily the best guitar I've ever played, or at least the most fitting to me.
Also, I really think those Mayones Regius "Element" guitars that are being developed to Daniel Gildenlows specifications will destroy all else!!!

This is a prog forum...and I only saw Parker Fly listed maybe once? I can't believe it. Those guitars pretty much can get any tone you want except extremely super hot. Brilliant acoustic sound when wanted, and a powerful electric sound that's perfect for running effects.

I also love the sound of those big ol' Gibson semi-acoustics, as favoured by these two well known vegetarians...

I have a 52 telecaster, which i absolutely love, for blues, and strait up rock there's nothing better
I also have an american Stratocaster, which is my workhorse guitar, its incredibly versatile
my next guitar hopefuly will be a gibson EDS-1275 (the double neck guitar Jimmy Page used)

My Strat, NOT a Fender Blackmore model, but custom built in 1988 by Jimmy Moon (Glasgow) using an '85 Jap '72 re-issue, fitted with Reflex Red active pick-ups, graphite nut & string trees, and, of course, a scalloped board. 
*note the coiling of the string ends, the sign of a true Blackmore anorak/complete saddo!

I would think, for acoustic guitars, Taylor is really good because you get the quality you payed for.

Depends really. A few of my friends call Les Pauls - Les Dawsons. So clumsy and heavy. I am a classic strat and tele lover, although they can be limiting in some respects. I tried a John Petrucci Musicman - wow these guitars feel amazing.
Try James Tyler, or Tom Anderson guitars - these are the business especially if you do a lot of sessions. I don;t think I have found a guitar that does the lot yet. I suppose these guitars are probably the most versatile around. Parker Flys are great but are somewhat plasticy (carbon fibre fretboard).
Sod it, my guitar is the greatest rock guitar ever built (although it needs a fret dress) - 1989 Ibanez USA Custom Silver Snake. Check out www.myspace.com/owenrees82 to see a picture. Plays like a dream. Neck is similar to the John Petrucci Ibanez, and not as thin as the Steve Vai Jem. Its got some wear on the neck, and feels beautifully worn in.
