You wouldn't say I was overly-generous if you saw my ratings for King Crimson and Van der Graaf Generator.

yeah, but you don't like those bands. when you like a band/artist, you are over-generous. It's almost funny.

Touché!. I could never accuse you of being overly-generous with your ratings, having just taken a look at your ratings/reviews page. ![]() |

I own five Nektar albums now - thanks to Amazon - and they were just a drop in the ocean at £13 for a neatly packaged 5-CD box set. ![]() ![]() |

Hi, I
wold suggest these might be the better/best of their albums. but, for
me, the end is in "Recycled" with the last song, and you knew something
was not right with Roye, or the band, and to my knowledge most of the
stuff released after was the leftover studio and live material. Both
live albums, BTW, (Roundhouse/NY) are exceptional and simply shows you that the band
was just as good on stage as they were on record ... there was no
difference, and they were very clean about it ... be it rehearsed or
just plain well dedicated to their work. Rockpalast
is a nice concert, however, already you can see that Roye is not doing
well, but his effort is tremendous in it, and it was one last gasp for
the band. I like "Sounds Like This" for
one massive reason ... that is exactly what you get in concert when you
saw Nektar ... a day in the life of a preacher ... and that preacher is
Roye ... and it is his Odyssey!

Journey to the Centre of the Eye is one of my favorite albums ever and it was the second (or third) prog album I ever listened to. Amazing album.

I love Nektar. Or more exact I love Journey to the Centre of the Eye, A Tab in the Ocean, Remember the Future and Recycled. I found Magic is a Child so underwhelming I never investigated any further. I decided to give it another shot today/now. I know it's their first release without Roye Albrighton, and he's sorely missed. It doesn't feel or sound like Nektar, the band I enjoy so much. Still upon revisiting I now think it's a decent effort. Very radio friendly AOR-sounding, and not the music I want from them. But they hadn't lost their knack for strong melodies. I guess they deserve credit for succeeding in creating the album they wanted to make. It was a huge flop though. And it's the album from them I keep seeing in the same cheap bins year after year.

Let me know where those cheap bins are, because I've never seen any Nektar albums for sale in any store anywhere - not even at the full price. I only have a 5-CD boxset of albums by Nektar, which sadly doesn't include their debut and best album: Journey to the Centre of the Eye.

Hi, In my old days, the heaven on this earth was Rasputin's in Berkeley which had 2 stores, one for rock music and down the street a block or two (can't even remember it now!) the other one for classical music. It was so bad that the minute you walked in you got a headache ... where do you start? When do you stop? I don't even know if they still exist.

I wish we still had record stores in England where you don't even know where to start looking. I bought my Nektar box set from Amazon for £12. The last time I bought any Psychedelic/Space Rock from a record store was Iron Butterfly's In-a-Gadda da-Vida and The Best of Quicksilver Messenger Service from Amoeba Records in Los Angeles, after I sent my brother there on a CD-buying trip, once he'd navigated his way past the drug-pushers and hookers hanging out on Hollywood Boulevard.

^ Nope! There's only one over-priced record store (HMV) remaining in Nottingham and I haven't bought a CD from a Nottingham record shop for at least five years. I buy virtually all of my CD's from charity shops and car boot sales these days (apart from an annual trip to Langley Mill Records in Derbyshire), where the chances of finding any Psychedelic or Progressive Rock amongst their many bargains are about as likely as Roger Waters reuniting for another album with Pink Floyd - when Pigs (on the wing) might fly!
