Different types of throws against the Steelers. Also, I'm guessing the thinner air helps with velocity.

Also, I'll speak it quietly, the Steelers D isn't always quite as good as they are made out to be.
At least against the pass.
On a different note, was nice to see the Giants bring out LeGrand before the game.
Kid is like a hero in NJ, and to be fair I've met him and he's a quiet, modest guy who wants no sympathy and is only positive about his life.
Shame it got no coverage, and focus was put on the small fiasco with Schiano and Coughlin

His zip certainly improved over the game.
That Atlanta cloud defense really did seem to confuse Denver, and they have some quality pass rushers and coverage it seems. Matty Ryan was looking in complete control.
Denver's D did step up and allowed Peyton a chance to win but just couldn't come up with it.

I like that Falcon D.....see if it lasts thru the season before Os figure it out, a quick snap may catch them not ready and force them more to a settled D rather than walking all over the place.
Give Manning another half Qtr and I think he wins that game. It took half a game for his sync to come back...

You're right about that. Even early in this game they let the Jets march right down the field on them. They can't trust the CBs they have, at all, and really need to just go all out press coverage and hope that it destroys timing.

Give him another 4 minutes, and I think he wins it. The Eric Decker drop at the 15ish yard line really killed them which is a strange thing to say in a game where you turn the ball over 4 times.

That's a good point......4 turn overs and still in the game, I don't know if that speaks badly for the Falcons or if Manning can give up 5 and still win a game.

Well, I think the Falcons are just an overrated team that will always get overhyped by the media and never actually amount to anything in terms of playoff success.

Not that I will ever knock someones pass defense too badly. I sincerely think the Giants secondary couldn't cover Rutgers at the moment....
Which is why it's so very worrying that our healthy D line (far as I know?) is lacking...that was just the Buccs. If we have no rush, well it's gunna be some epic aerial displays against the Saints and Packers.
This year needs to be "the year" for Matty Ryan. He's proven to be a very good QB, but can he become great?
Which means going beyond the numbers. He can end up with 70% complete 4000 yards and 40 TDs but can he pull out that "something", that unexplainable thing where you just win. You almost don't want the year to go too smoothly, need some struggle, some sh*t time, to show what ya got.
Doesn't look like he has it, but we shall see.

By winning I don't think he becomes "great"....he merely becomes a winning QB, greatness comes much later on. He is very good, I agree......His size and arm strength should dictate that he should win a lot, but alas that part has eluded him of late.
The history is that late in the season, crunch time, he is not the choice......I do believe one year that might change, but I struggle thinking they could make it all the way to the SB.

RIP Steve Sabol
Sabol's contributions to the game cannot be understated. He truely made the NFL the monster that it is. I grew up on NFL Films Presents so, to me, he'll always be the host of the game's history (past, present, and future).

I was saddened to hear of Steve Sabol's passing. I loved those old (and new) NFL films documentories, they were old school. Being a music site, I also really loved those old Classical come Marching type songs that fit perfectly into the film of the games and stories they put out. I think I will go download some of those songs and narratives by Sam Spence with the voice of John Facenda.

Yeah in the Madden games I always had every NFL classic song on the loop. Superb stuff.
Exactly Catcher, winning does not necessarily make him great. Like I said, needs to go beyond the numbers, show that moxy you need, that inner something.
Too soon to tell if Ryan will just be a very good QB that doesn't have "it" or a great one.
Which you need these days. With the exception of San Fran and a few others the days of balanced teams and decent QBs only are gone, you need a great QB in most cases now.

I think it's dwindling, but it's still possible. In the past decade the Ravens, the Bucs, the Steelers twice won with good but not great qbs. I would probably argue that I need to see more from Eli before I call him great. So you would have in the past ten years 6 superbowl wins without great quarterbacks. That would be 50%.

That's a fair comment on all points.......I also think it is fair to say you don't need a great QB to win the SB. Its one game, you can have a great performance, but not be a great QB.

No doubt, and it'll never die completely. There will always be a few teams with balance and a just good QB that can win the SB. Just as we said, it is dwindling. Alex Smith isn't great, at least yet that we know of, but he can absolutely win the SB. I wont even get into the Eli thing but fair enough, I guess technically it's still too soon to make a definitive statement, buuuuuut IDK how one can't say he's great yet  I'm cautiously optimistic about tomorrow's game. As always who knows what the hell will happen

He was great last year. Before that I think he just threw too many INTs and was too inconsistent.
