Although I listen to many prog sub-genre, my favorites are symphonic prog and avant prog. Symphonic prog is a subgenre that always makes me say, this is what I expect from a perfect music. Avant prog, on the other hand, is a genre that I love, along with avant jazz, which is perfect imperfection. yes and zappa are also my favorite names in these genres. Is there any piece of music where I can take the taste of these two sub-genres together?

I think Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts - A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers can be considered a mix of symphonic prog and avant prog. |

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

The great thing about Rate Your Music's top album's chart is that the new filtering system means you can focus on multiple genres. Check this list that contains both symph and avant. Unfortunately only works if both genres are primary. Secondary ones as in Van Der Graaf Generator don't show up. The eclectic prog category on PA has many candidates

That's a great idea. I forgot all about that Emmanuel Booz album. Probably one of the best mixes of the two genres.

Cool to see Oscillospira ranking that high. A very overlooked album. By the way, the last album by Simon Steensland is also worth listening to: Edited by edefakiel - March 25 2023 at 16:14 |

You'll find a whole smorgasbord of Avant Symphonic Prog in Sweden. Namely, Isidurs Bane, Kaipa, and Von Zamla as a starter course.

Univers Zero (if you haven't heard them already) makes some nice avant prog chamber music. Their symphonic in more of a orchestral and chamber focused environment. I would also recommend checking out After Crying's Megalázottak És Megszomorítottak.

Have you explored much Zeuhl yet? A lot of Zeuhl kind of splits the difference between the two, with big expansive, bombastic arrangements a la symph and dissonance, experimentation and jazz leanings a la avant-prog. "K.A." by Magma and "Mathematical Mother" by Universal Totem Orchestra would be good starting points.

I'd recommend ELP. It's a boring choice, I know, but when you think about it, they did have quite a few avant-garde sounding passages in their songs. EDIT: Another fantastic choice just came to mind. Czeslaw Niemen - Aerolit

When my days were a bit busy, I couldn't write an answer even though I looked at all your suggestions, ehe sorry. I already knew that but my discovery was before I realized how awesome it was, so I couldn't value it because it was before I realized it. Thanks to your suggestion, I seem to have rediscovered it recently and it has become one of my favorite songs, thank you very much.

Ehe, again, I apologize for such a late reply. This was definitely a genius idea, although unfortunately it didn't work very well for my request, it helped me to have fun and discover a lot of new music by offering my other fantastic tricks. I used a few beauties from this page to enrich my list. Dans quel état j'erre and Mathematical mother were great albums. Thank you very much. Edited by rockrowb - April 21 2023 at 04:48 |

Again sorry for the late reply. This album was definitely not the answer I expected or had in mind, but I'm glad it wasn't because I realized that I wanted such an album as well. It was an answer that I didn't expect but needed, absolutely beautiful album, thank you very much. :> Edited by rockrowb - April 21 2023 at 04:49 |

Well, sorry again for the late reply. He has a very interesting style, unfortunately, since he is not the platform I can listen to, he does not have music that I can add to my daily music routine, but I listen to it from time to time. |

Sorry for the late reply too. The band, the album and the song itself are absolute masterpieces. When I first opened Topic, I never thought that I could find what I was looking for in ecletic, but when I first looked at these messages, I had an enlightenment on this subject. It started to nudge me to start looking at what genres these pieces might actually be inspired by and what they might look like, and to actually think about discovering music through sub genre as well as grasping the sub genre of music. For this reason, this sebgenre event provided a different perspective for me, thank you very much. |

Sorry for my late reply to you too. I loved Isildurs Bane's In disequilibrium, kaipa's vittjar and sattyg and Von Zamla's Zamlaranamma albums. I definitely felt the need to know Sweden better, especially for prog. Thank you so much. :> |
