I'm predicting Focus will win this poll.

Cool poll! It was hard to choose between Alquin, Focus, and Solution, but decided to go with Solution. Their first three albums are classics, and under-rated as anything!

Since you left two open slots slots, Supersister is my favourite (EDIT: by the way, I wasn't the one who voted in an open slot as I figured you planned to edit in suggestions). I know you mentioned not knowing it or the others in my mainland Europe Canterbury Scene poll. You mentioned liking Caravan there, and indeed this one can be similar (oddly, was going to mention that over there to you, then saw this poll). Probably will mention that there too as I treat polls also as reference guides for people.
That said, Focus has been one of my very favourite bands, and on your list, I still very often play Earth & Fire's Song of the Marching Children -- I adore the "Song of the Marching Children" suite (would have voted for E&F if not for the open slots). I also like Solution, Golden Earring and mentioned track of theirs in another poll recently, and others. Edited by Logan - October 16 2019 at 06:14 |

Supersister has some interesting and complex time signature changes in that 10-minute song, although I would need to listen to it several times to really get into the music. It was a difficult choice selecting a favourite Dutch band from my own poll, but I eventually went with Earth & Fire. I love the "Song of the Marching Children" suite too. I left two empty slots in my poll for later suggestions, but unfortunately, I can't add the band names in now as someone's already voted in those two empty slots. It was my fault though for not mentioning at the beginning of my thread that I'd left those two empty slots to add bands in retroactively who I might have missed out of the poll. I wish I'd done that with my "Favourite Female Bands" poll, then I could have added The Corrs, who might have given Heart a run for their money.

Thanks! I can highly recommend the following 2-CD compilation album by Solution as a worthy addition to any CD collection... |

Do you mean that you literally can not edit Supersister and Kong in, or that you won't because each empty slot has a vote? If the second option, I don't see it as a problem yet. Lewian it seems voted for the last spot for Kong, and while I didn't vote in the poll (but posted around the same time someone did vote for other), that person who voted for the second to last option did not even list the "other" choice, a wag or generally disgruntled person perhaps, and I would not vote in the poll and could count that as my vote if you add Supersister to that spot. At least Supersister would be in the right place alphabetically. Edited by Logan - October 16 2019 at 07:47 |

No problem. I can add Supersister and Kong to the 11th and 12th slots in my poll.

I only know Focus, so no vote. Sorry for my ignorance.

You might recall Golden Earring had a hit with "Radar Love" and Shocking Blue are best-known for "Venus".

Kayak made the most records I listen to, but I also really like Focus and Supersister. I would also recommend Alquin's first two albums and Earth and Fire's Song of the Marching Children.

I agree that the Gathering is great but I think the focus here(no pun intended)is on older bands from the first wave of prog.

There's also a Golden Years of Dutch Pop Music compilation available for all of the first 10 artists in my poll. You can find them all listed on Discogs.

You're right. The Focus was on the older Dutch bands from the 1970's.
