 Topic: Prog songs for weddings?

My wife and I just celebrated our anniversary in july and were
reminiscing about the music we used. Has anyone else used prog in their
wedding? We danced our wedding dance to Onward and the reception CD's I
burned were 75% prog (Closer to Believing, Nights in White Satin,
Strawbs' So close and yet so far away, etc...)
Hope I'm not repeating a thread....

I never really thought of a wedding, however I have made it known that at my funeral I want Rush's Hemepheres and Dream Theater's Scene's from a memory played.

comes the bride") by Richard Wagner. but then we wanted it very
traditional. imagine the two of us in white bridal gowns, with floral
wreaths on our bald heads

I was the pianist on one of my friends reception, and I played some Flower Kings, Kayak and Camel on the grand piano, but that was the reception afterwards. For the official moment I still would go for Mendelssohn's classic tune, you know, the very famous one, of another classic tune. But that's me. I chose Mendelssohn myself at my own wedding. So the traditional approach as well.

Hehe, make them listen to all 78 minutes of it! After Hemispheres of course, good choices.
I'd choose King Crimson's "Starless", mainly because i see it as one of prog's crowning achievements.

If I had the chance to get married again (to the same
woman, of course), I'd use New Horizons by the
Moody Blues for the ol' First Dance.
I used God Only Knows by the Beach Boys, a
decision I don't regret.

No prog in wedding, but 'Shine on you crazy diamond' was on in the car as we left the ceremony.
Prog is not really known for its 'romantic' tendencies. How about VDGG 'Killer' at a wedding eh?

Your ex-girlfriend has a excellent soul and taste. "Lady in Black" is rigt song for wedding.I recommend "Diamond ring"  Jon Bon Jovi. Of course Bon Jovi isn,t prog., but the song is. Unpluged, only acoustic guitars.

I've always thought King Crimson's Islands would be lovely ... sure, it'd be ironic because the lyrics seem to me to be about isolation, but the music is just so gorgeous ... everytime I listen to it, it takes me back to the 30's. (Not that I lived then. Just all the movies and stuff I've seen from that period seems to have similar music. I think it's the muted trumpet...  oh well it's gorgeous so whoever I marry had better tolerate my having that song as a first, or else it's Bridezilla time.  )

I considered that one too ... that's a well-known love song, isn't it? But it changes tempo too often - there are slow bits then faster bits. It's not danceable-to. Gorgeous, but not danceable.
