Some of you may know my Prog Metal page:

http://www.mikeenregalia.com/ProgMetal.html

A lot of bands have been mentioned by various members, and in order to figure out which of them should be added to the archives, I've formed a group of Prog Metal experts:

  • Useful_Idiot
  • TheProgtologist
  • MikeEnRegalia
  • king16
  • Vanwarp

We will do the following:

  • I'll present a list of band, which the team will listen to.
  • The members of the team vote for the bands that they would like to include
  • bands which receive three votes will be added:
    • prior to adding the bands, I'll anounce the new additions in this thread (always in the first post)
    • any serious complaints (like "wooot they are not prog!!!") should be posted here, in which case I will ask the other admins and Max about their opinion
    • Then I'll add the bands, unless I hear a veto from them.

And now, without further ado, here's the first bunch of bands:

  1. Avantasia
    Orchestral Power Prog
  2. Behold ... the Arctopus

Interesting list Mike, and good idea, mabey something similar should be done for all of the other genres as prog metal isnt the only one.

Agreed ... we'll see how this thing turns out, maybe others will want to do something similar for Symphonic Prog/Neo Prog or Experimental/Post/RIO/Avant.

Let's not forget Jazz Fusion and Canterbury

Personally I'd love to get involved though I'm not in a position to find new bands to be added to the archives.

BTW I'm supprised its tacken this long to get Micheal Romeos solo CD on here.

Three votes and they are in -- that seems somewhat easy.  I think it should be closer to a consensus, at least 4 votes.  Or one of you could have veto power.  If one feels very, very strongly about a group not being prog, then they don't get in with 3 votes, only 4.

I don't know, guys.  Just a suggestion.  Keep up the good work, though.

PS - I hope you don't vote for Mastodon.  I'm pretty liberal in what I consisder prog, but them ain't it, I know that much.

As I said in the first post: If an artist is accepted (3 votes) and there is really strong opposition, we will investigate further. But this opposition has to be backed up with good reasons ...

Keep in mind that other extreme bands like Dillinger Escape Plan are also included. Surely that alone is not sufficient for adding a band, but it means something.

I will ... and I have. Feel free to comment on the bands that I listed in the initial post. I will keep that list up to date, and I will show the results of the votes on my ProgMetal page. So it would be best if you all bookmark the page:
