im not saying its better although i prefer CTTE only because i heard it more times and apreciate it more.

If it is "fixed" then its not the masses prefering it, but a few individuals!

"Both are phenomenal songs... But "Supper's Ready" is the apex of progressive rock's side long suites... "Close To The Edge" is the virtuostic side long that groups like Rush and Dream Theather to name two which they could make...

I like Supper's Ready better. I find it a little more diverse and a little less repetitive than CTTE, although I like both, of course.

Supper's Ready a lot better. Close... is ok, but I've never quite understood what's so special about it. Yes has plenty of better songs than that one. Supper's Ready is much more catchy, diverse, dramatic, surprising and elaborately structured.

I have always liked them both, but if I had to watch one song live for the rest of my life,( having seen both play live) I would have to say Closer To Tthe Edge, I love Yes Live more than Genesis Live, Plus I love to watch Wakeman,  But I love Genesis too this Poll is to hard.

Both excellent examples of what was good and daring about music at that time- couldn't choose one over the other.

Come on! Supper's Ready by leaps and bounds. So much more to offer
than CttE. Have you Yes fans listened to the lyrics? (which are sung
poorly, like all Yes tunes)

'I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down. I get up, I get down.' ?
'A dew drop can exalt us like the music of the sun' ?

And CttE has no defense that it is far less diverse and more repetitive.
Some guy mentioned quite accurately that after a couple listens all one
remembers is the standard issue - albeit catchy - chorus.

All this said I do love both the songs.
It's obviously fixed. The votes have gone up for CTTE by about 10 in the past
5 minutes (with 1 for Genesis.) Look at the people that commented saying
what they voted for. There seems to be a little bit more CTTE's but not by
much.
There youīve said it all. That statistic is crucial . Forget about the result of this poll. If most people really prefered Close over Supperīs, the only thing left to think is that "Close" is for the masses and is more likable because it has those poppy and catchy-bubble gum choruses so you remember them even while you are washing your car...man ĄĄ, you can sing "I get up I get down" to your 1 year old baby and probably she or he will dance along with the chorus. Try doing the same with "Apocalypse" and the baby will start crying.

Ok. Just a final thing, so this is not just an ironic text:

It seems like saying "Close by far", "Close is the best prog song ever" gives much more credit to the argument than a fully explained reason about why "Close" would be better. When such comments are said over the years, 33 year to be precise, what you get is a dogma. Something you canīt argue about, itīs converted into a fact, just like a cience. And that is ridiculous.

Iīll make a comparison between these two songs in terms of what I think, are the most important elements in music:

 Diversity:       Supperīs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >> Close

 Imagination:  Supperīs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>> Close

Lyrics:           Supperīs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>> Close       (I get up I get down,I get up I get downI get up I get downI get up I get downI get up I get downI get up I get downI get up I get downI get up I get downI get up I get downI get up I get downI get up I get downI get up I get downI get up I get downI get up I get down)

Creativity (different and original textures, moods, shades, sounds ):

                                       Supperīs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>> Close

Voice and interpretation: Supperīs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>> Close

 Instrumentation: Supperīs <<<<< Close

The number of "plus (>>>>)" marks are irrelevant. The differences are overwhelming.

Close sure has better instrumentation. However, I dare to say the complexity of their playing is more individual than the result of a team work. Every instrument is played impressively, but the interaction and the changing from theme to theme is more complex and more a team work in Supperīs.

Looks like we need to ask the United Nations Election Monitoring Group to investigate what's going on here...

I really love Supper's Ready, and have to confess that I've found it only recently, but Close To The Edge is a progressive, symphonic composition whereas Supper's Ready is more a rhapsody, or a suite of fine songs that are brilliantly knit together towards the end.

My vote has to go to CTTE, but SR runs, eh, a close second.

Seems there's a Yes fan in all the polls with too much time on his hands or too many PC's at his office.

'Close To The Edge' it has to be. I just could not get into 'Supper's Ready' or, for that matter, most of the 'Foxtrot' album. The keyboard sounds in CTTE are just godly!

There's no match: Close to the edge is a long song, Supper's ready is a real suite...

I hear you, although I have in fact learned to sit through SR and even enjoy, say, 50% of it

Lol, Eduardo sure is likely to find it baffling that somebody could actually get bored while listening to SR as it is supposed to have tons more creativity and diversity... All I can say is, what some people hear as diversity and creativity, I hear as a hotchpotch of ideas not executed nearly as well as on CTTE. Supper's Ready is just too rough on the edges and sounds too much like a musical tune to me. It might have gone down well on Broadway, lol...!

Sorry, I just can't take this prog suite as seriously as some (well, many!) of you do but still, it is fun to sing along to Gabriel on Willow Farm, can't deny that.

Close to the edge is a brilliant 8 minutes of music stretched out to a record side. Supper's Ready is not as brilliant but much more diverse and not elongated at it's 24 minutes. It's a tough call . The lyrics of CTTE are meaningless which is another big drawback. The playing is better on CTTE but I'll go for SR.

How wonderful to be so profound
