Yes, because I want it, besides I like some of what I consider to be truly Prog Metal, and I like PA, and I don't want it to go off target like it's been doing lately... Since this a PROG site, let's focus in PROG, not in our other tastes or what could appeal to some of us!

You're free to express your opinion, of course, but that won't change things. ProgMetal is here because lots of site members like it, and because the site owners want it to be here. Posting in a thread dedicated to PM just to say it's not prog and shouldn't be here will only cause unrest, and spark a possible flame war. I can understand your frustration, but your stance is not going to effect anything in the way of changes to site policy.
Just my 2 cents, of course...

hmm..don't understand your point really...but if what you mean is what happens if we have different tastes, it's totally fine, tastes simply are, no blame... but those are true Prog Rock bands, they belong here in PA, no discussion...

Trolling?
| It's so easy, cheap and low point your finger to others who strongly disagree with you, like me...

However there comes a point when everyone knows your opinion and to keep on posting to reinforce it becomes irritating then destructive. I would say that whether it is your intention or not the general perception of you on the forum and in the Collab/Admin areas is that you are a troll. You can do two things about this: 1. You can stop your dismissive, confrontational behaviour and post something positive elsewhere, whilst acknowledging that everyone in the Prog Metal Team is aware of your opinion. 2. You can continue in a similar vein until you annoy enough people and/or prevent constructive discussion relating to any form of music that isnt to your personal taste and ultimately get removed from the forum permanently. Which is it? We know your opinion, we understand your opinion and we will bear it in mind. However we are not slave to your opinion and we need to move this discussion on. You are preventing serious discussion. This stops here, OK?

Sludge metal is simply one of many genres which provides inspiration for a number of the experimental/post metal bands listed on PA. Specifically the bands which could be labelled 'post sludge metal.' EDIT: thanks to whoever deleted PHPs post now my post looks really out of place.

To expand on what Nick E said, Sludg metal is an "outside" influence on a number of progressive metal bands, just as classical and jazz was to bands like Yes and ELP.

The main issue here is the diversity of what we consider prog and what we do not. All of us, from me and PHP to any admin, are in their own to put personal boundaries to prog.... Anyway, is that useful??? ................... However, it creates a DIVERSITY, which everyone has to RESPECT and TOLERATE. There isn't an absolute truth or a god called PROG who says what is prog, what is not...... to each his own!....
I can't see where our mate PHP is trolling.... he's stating his points of view, having a wide knowledge of prog, which are exactly the opposite as Mike, as Progtolo, etc. etc. etc..... discussin' is good, even if we barely arrive to a common conclusion.

Of course discussion is good. Repeating the same old thing ad nauseam is not discussion.

Have you even read through this thread?Or any other threads PHP participates in?
"However, it creates a DIVERSITY, which everyone has to RESPECT and TOLERATE. There isn't an absolute truth or a god called PROG who says what is prog, what is not...... to each his own!.... "
PHP runs all over the forum posting in every thread dealing with prog metal, stating his opinion that none of this is prog, not prog metal, not post-rock,etc.He says we don't know what true prog is,and he does.
Is that tolerant? Is that diverse? Is that respectful of other people's tastes? He is trying to tell us what is prog and what is not, according to HIM.
We aren't trying to shove prog metal down your throats,if you don't like it,fine. There are a lot of other genres here for everyone to enjoy. But he is trying to shove HIS opinion down our throats, and I for one am sick of it.
Do you see me or Mike or Teo go into a Zeuhl thread and go...."Well,Zeuhl isn't prog, you guys don't know what true prog is,but we do",and then end it all with annoying,smart-ass emoticons?(I'm not picking on Zeuhl mind you,I just picked agenre randomly).
And we don't hide who we are,and post using multiple identities.
Ya know what I mean?

Anyways, who's bashing Prog Metal?...do you believe I'm
a close minded Prog-head?? well, since I consider Opeth a Prog Metal
band..how much of bashing Prog Metal is that..?¿
If you see what I say you'll note there's no wrong in Prog Metal, the
error is there behind the genre, those arbitrary, made-up, and unknown
subdisivisions and stuff made by no Prog experts, and most important,
they're not related to Prog...man, don't put your own tastes and make
others believe they're Prog because you like a band...be accurate...

Its almost off topic now to post about the prog metal split but since it IS the thread topic, at least originally, i feel relatively comfortable that my post will not be deleted. In response to PHP, saying that those names of the genres are arbitrary, made-up and unknown is where YOU go wrong, not the prog metal team. those are well defined, documented and known genres of rock. sludge, post, experimental, technical, im sure YOU know the meanings of these words. they are used simply to express the qualities of the music to help to better identify and differentiate the styles of different bands. These bands have been on the site for a while. relabeling them doesn't automatically make them not progressive. its like saying jazz fusion isnt prog because jazz isnt prog (as sluge metal isnt prog). Dont shove YOUR jazz tastes and make others believe its prog . . . man. i dont like jazz. quit telling me its prog. sooner or later you will have to realize that prog metal is prog, whether or not you believe in it.
