I'm building quite the King Crimson collection in a pretty short period of time. My most recent purchase has been Larks' Tongues In Aspic and VROOOM VROOOM (which I'm really enjoying so far). The above selections are all down at my favorite CD shop in the city; so, what would be the next one that I should go after?

I think "Starless And Bible Black" will be excellent purchase for you, as a logical continuation of "Larks'..."Smile

yeah, at this point starless and bible black is a must have; followed closely by islands and three of a perfect pair

Earthbound should be the last thing you'll by (if at all). It is not a successful live album.
 
All the rest are musts, in my opinion. Let's go according to the tastes, however. If you don't enjoy Discipline and only bear with Beat, but nothing more, I'm not sure you need Three of a Perfect Pair. But I, personally, like this album very much.
 
If you like Vrooom, Thrak, B'Boom, Vrooom Vrooom, you'll probably enjoy ThraKaTTack also. If you like to be "scared" (in a positive sense, though) by the music, buy it.
 
If you want to switch to something new and challenging, go for Lizard. Thumbs UpThumbs Up
 
As said, Starless and Bible Black is a logical continuation of Larks' Tongues in Aspic, and In the Wake of Poseidon is a logical continuation of In the Court of the Crimson King, as well as Islands (in some sense).
 
So, decide, and I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.

KC is not a band with a definite style or personality. You should try to listen to the records before purchasing them, otherwise the disapointment might be huge . At least that's my experience. I love the symphonic phase 69-72, I enjoy parts of the 73-74 records and I just can't connect with the A.Belew records.

I like the 80's era Discipline and Beat; but, in terms of the Belew era KC, I'm liking the 90's to TP2B a little more. I'm tellin' ya, though, VROOOM VROOOM is going to be hard to beat. Really enjoying that so far.

Starless and Perfect Pair have intrigued me the most, though. Heck, I should just buy both!

I should agree... I would vote Lizard (my earlier KC fave... now I'd choose between this and ItCotCK...) I didn't vote anyway
 
Islands was also an early fave, but I've heard much since... I haven't heard Ladies of the Road, but track listing is very promising... Besides, there are a hell of a similar tracks (from Boz era) in Cirkus disc 2... The only problem with the lack of Earthbound would be the missing improvisational pieces.. apart from the low quality sound (no quality at all!), the music is wonderful.
 
My least suggestion would be ToaPP, then Thrakattak... ToaPP is the weakest of all '80's albums, and Thrakattak has almost nothing to do whatsoever with the studio albums and EPs around that time. It's purely improvisational (and I don't think these improvisations are as enjoyable as the jazzy improvs of early seventies KC) and indeed scary, as Fassbinder mentioned.
 
SaBB has nothing new, IMHO... it's like a mixture of short poppy songs in Larks', and long-winding jams of Red. Since you seem to have both albums, better go for something new. Oh, if you also happen to see the 4 CD set Great Deceiver, get it! You'll have a clear picture of what you'll see in Starless... (plus more '73-'74 improvisations Wink)
Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)

If you're liking the Belew stuff more, Three Of A Perfect Pair, if you enjoy the old stuff more, go with Lizard.

In the Wake of Poseidon is as much a must-have as In The Court... is.  In fact I prefer ITWOP to ITCOTCK.

From te ones you listed, next you must get is either "Islands" or "SaBB"... Given my momentary mood, I'd go with the first one, more mellow and peaceful.

Since you really enjoy VROOM..., then get TRAK.. as it is in the same period and same sound.
 
While not mentioned, you may consider RED which is in the same mold as Larks.. along with Starless

The ones not listed are the ones that I already have (I've got both THRAK and Red).

The winner is Starless & Bible Black. Picked it up at lunch and out of the Wetton era, this could be my favorite. Of course it will take more listens, but it's really struck a chord with me so far.
