Whose music do you enjoy most? Father or son?

Oh dear, they both are great. But I remember Tim's wonderful Goodbye/Hello LP (still in my collection) with great fondness. Pleasant Street is still relevant. So I must vote for the father, also for without him, there would not be the son. Both sadly gone too soon.

"Pleasant Street" is probably my favourite Buckley Sr. piece of music as well. |

Tim, by a landslide .... Not that Jeff is bad, on the contrary... But by the time of his age at death time, his dad had many records (over 50% of them masterpieces), when he had only one official release - and maybe an EP. Of course his total posthumous output has made it somewhat of a more fleshy œuvre, but so has Tim's. And Jeff's vbest known and greatest hit is not from him either, but Cohen's. Tim's official historical releases has at least 4 fantastic albums: Happy Sad, Lorca, Starsailor & Greetings from LA. |

True. But none of those fantastic Tim Buckley's releases comes as close to perfection as Jeff Buckley's "Grace". Forget about "Hallelujah". The rest of the album is flawless. Edited by Morningrise - April 21 2019 at 08:30 |

I think perhaps that what is seen here is an evolution over years of how the music, sophistication of recording technology and tighter production values as well as how the audience had changed, as well. The culture was very different from father to son, father drew a lot on what had come before, as did his son, but his son had farther back to draw from based in part, on what his father and those of that generation accomplished.
I know that you are not implying this at all, but my own musing brought me to it. It always appalls me a bit when I hear disrespect for those who went before in a genre by those who didn't live it...the one eventually grows into another. Breaking ground is breaking ground. You maybe don't have to like it, it maybe doesn't appeal to you, but arguably, what you love would perhaps not have been possible without that which doesn't move you by those who went before. |

I love Tim Buckley while not a fan of Jeff's Grace-album so its a no brainer.
