I tend to nominate Phantom Orchard (Zeena Parkins & Ikue Mori) - Jezebel for the less known category and Fripp & Eno - An Index of Metals V for the better known category. I'm also keen to nominate one of the Ex-Can member projects if that is OK for less known, but I haven't yet decided which one. Any input is welcome. I hope come the end of the week I have some more time to listen and maybe comment. |

@Christian
Go ahead, post your Ex-Can member tracks, the sooner the better but maybe not too many, so you have a chance to get some feedback. I'm planning to start the nominations by the middle of next week.

Potential misunderstanding? I was talking about the tracks already posted with Irmin Schmidt, Jaki Liebezeit, Holger Czukay in them.

Well, not everyone is as familiar with Can as you are . . ![]() So if I am not the only one it might make sense to post their tracks here again, in case you want some feedback. I can do it for you, if you wish.

What are Can compared to Laura Pasini?????

Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

I remember the names of 4 out of 6 musicians. Clearly, German names are quite a complication. You want to compare Cochi and Renato? I Love Mina. https://youtu.be/ua9u_AoKxgo

@Lorenzo
Both duos are humorous, Cochi & Renato are comedians who can sing and Celentano & Mina are singers who have acting talent. Celentano has starred in quite a few comedies. I did't know Cochi & Renato, though. A great idea to introduce them here, they spice up the mood! Luckily I can understand Italian. Mina is of course a diva of the Italian chanson.

I liked all three. I think my preference goes to the Irmin Schmidt and Kumo collaboration. I like the percussive sounds and textures and then the Holger Czukay v. Dr. Walker. Side question if anyone who knows. Are the spoken word samples from the latter by the same comedy duo that was in the Frontier Psychiatrist piece that Mila had in a previous poll? They sound similar. |

So, I think Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross would be my well-known duo nomination. They would be considered that for the movies they have done and winning a couple Oscars, right? Reznor is probably better known for Nine Inch Nails and Ross is a member but most people think of just Reznor.
On the other hand, I have nominated them before, although that was 2020! Would Ninja Sex Party be considered well-known? They are on an independent label, but their last few comedy albums have been #1 on the comedy album charts. I am not sure how known they are outside the U.S. The Mystic Crystal video I posted has over 2 million views. I actually heard them first for their covers albums. They have three albums of 70s and 80s pop/rock covers, in which the most covered artist/group was Rush (Subdivisions, Madrigal. Closer to the Heart, Limelight). Besides Mystic Crystal, they have one other 'epic' proggish number (6969) which was clearly inspired by Rush's 2112, even using a line from 2112. Most of their humor is about getting laid with the music originally being mostly synth-pop but expanded over the years as they brought in TWRP (Tupper Ware Remix Party) as their backing band. On their own, TWRP are a Canadian comedy rock band. I put out a good number of duos, so any input on who to nominate would help. |

So, I guess Mila is still busy searching Easter eggs, which leaves me the time to get to my nominations... For the lesser known duos I go with Nils Frahm & Anne Müller - Because This Must Be / Augmentation. For the better known, although - musically - I prefer the Bruford/Levin collaboration, I'm curious what the Buggles will do in a poll on these boards... so: Buggles - Vermillion Sands.

@Kees
I'm still nibbing at my chocolate Easter bunnies and eggs but still managed to take a look at the progress of the poll from time to time.
![]() _______________________ INFO Hey guys, I hope you all enjoyed your Easter holidays?! ![]() I have given you some time in view of the nominations so that you can possibly help each other with the selection. But as it seems you've all been rather busy in the last few days including myself. I will post the list of suggestions tomorrow and would like to encourage you once again to comment briefly on the suggestions of those who have not yet been able to make up their minds (see previous posts). I'm planning to put up the poll by the weekend if that's ok with you? |

For my first two slots, I will nominate Lobos Marino - We Hear the Ocean and Ninja Sex Party - The Mystic Crystal. Two different acts. I thought about Ghost Power but had them in poll just last year. Maybe some other time for the Claypool Lennon Delirium.

I like all of the got-off-the-can ones, but I tend to favour the way you ordered them. I could go either way when it comes to "Irmin Schmidt & Kumo" and "Holger Czukay vs. Dr. Walker" but I'm favouring Irmin Schmidt & Kumo (cloud or spider?) right now. While in Japan, the head teacher of the school I worked at who had limited English told me to watch out for poison kumo in the area where my apartment was. She told me I should be okay because I live on a higher floor floor and because of my height/ size. There were smokestacked ominous factories (rather like in the beginning of Blade Runner seeing the city from a Spinner) in view from from my flat, and I thought it was a ground level and very low lying poison cloud/ fog (kumo) coming from those which my head would be above when walking. Quite stupid of course, I did not yet know that kumo meant spider as well as cloud. Turns out some palm trees had been imported and planted from Australia at a local park which contained redback spiders (similar to Black Widow spiders) and are generally not very dangerous to adults. Not an entertaining anecdote, unlike the entertainment derived by listening to the ex-Can members music. "Hot off the Can" would be a good name for an album, imo. With Kees, the only other one I see posted by him is The Mark & Clark Band - Worn Down Piano (the first he mentioned), so unless specified otherwise, I would assume that will be his other nomination. Since George decided his ones above, I guess that just leaves Mila for me not addressed as an undecided.... Mila: I much prefer Röyksopp - The Ladder over Wet Leg (just much more my style). Really like that. I sot of see The Ladder as an interesting one up against my Boards of Canada choice and "Irmin Schmidt & Kumo" as an interesting one to compare to my Cedric Victor & Jarboe - "Summoning Tigers in Dark Eden" choice. But that may just be me. Edited by Logan - April 13 2023 at 21:13 |

I don't know how to answer your question. it depends who you ask. Someone who likes 80s music and synth-pop would know Yazoo. Led Zeppelin fans and people that enjoy classic rock and hard rock would be familiar with the Page & plant album. So if we have to choose 2 songs, my final nominations are Remina and Page/Plant. ![]() |
