I'd rather see 21st Century Schizoid Band playing the 1969-1971 golden age material than this new Robert Fripp metal version of the band,  I can't listen to any Krimson past Red.  I don't listen to entire albums past Islands.  Too Bad I missed 21st Century Band last year in NYC.

At least he is respectable to keep Crim in the prog limelight, unlike sell-outs Genesis. And the Schizoids? The music sounds as fresh as in the 70's. It may well be living in the past, but relishing in past glories is no crime. I mean God, even Fripp will ocaissionally throw Red, 21st Century Schizoid Man, and even Catfood at us once in awhile. Never forget where you came from, especially if it's of any lasting value and high quality.

so your telling me the schizoids arent in it for the money? Remembering the past is not only good, but important. Whereas capitalizing on nostalgia is dull.

I used to read his diary on the old DGM web site, and could not believe how he constantly chided and belittled most of his admiring fans. I used to email another Crimson fan, and expressed my feelings about him in a personal message, not knowing that the said person had a friend who personally knew Fripp. My email was forwarded to Fripp, and low and behold he exposed my personal message (never meant to be shared) to the world when he replied on his web site about it. It was extra nasty, and I believe I hit home with some valid points about his flawed personallity. He thinks he is a victum of his fans, and himself as an intellectual. He is not a humble or friendly man to the people who have made him rich. Face it Robert, if you are good, you are going to be photographed and bootleged. The tension he creates doesn't sit well with many of us. YES, he is a unique and a master guitarist, plus a prog-rock pioneer, no doubt! And YES, he does have the right to be the way he is, but his attitude is a real turn-off for me. When you become an international celebrity, you take risks, sorry that's just the way life is. I have always been in awe of his talent, but think much less of him now. It's harder for me to purchase expensive concert tickets and new music from him or Crimson, knowing that he doesn't appreciate his loyal fans. I believe his intellectual match his his old Crim partner Peter Sinfield. Sinfield used to post a quite humourous web site page of an extrordinary and long argument between Fripp and himself. It made me smile because Sinfield had some equally intense stabs and jabs at old Bobby. I highly doubt you will ever see them work together ever again. Go see the 21st Century Schizoid Band if you miss the old Crimson. I saw them on their last US tour show last year and they were fantastic, and proved that they didn't need Fripp at all. Fripp IS NOT King Crimson, just part of it, and the real essense of Crimson lies with the Schizoid Band. And I don't think Fripp is hurting from the photos or bootlegs either. He has a comfortable mansion with Toyah.

sorry, not at all!

I'd still love to see them since I am only 17 and they are the closest I'll ever come to seeing King Crimson.  I cannot stand modern Crimson anyway (especially how they wont play their oldies for their fans - their PRIME MATERIAL).  At this point its just a name.

I think thier prime material was Red era personally, but im glad the new crimson doesnt play thier oldies 1 - its not the same members 2 - it hasnt been the original crimson since 72 its a very different band now. Personally I think new crimson is great. Not Islands or Red great (although power to believe is my third favourite crimson album). King Crimson was never really a band, its more of a project. And the schiziod band is the closest youll come to seeing the KC that did the first two albums. (personally I think ITCOCK is really overrated, In the wake of poseidon is really good though). So in that sense I guess they are usefull.

What does it matter what Fripp's personality is like? There's plenty of people who will give you pleasant company, but not many who are capable of something like "Starless".

Just because someone has touched you with their music (or films, or artwork, or literature) doesn't mean they're any more likely to be pleasant, or wise, or virtuous (or good in bed, even...am I right? ).

I heard that Greg lake ate lots of burritos during his time with King Crimson and was quite gassy. The fact that Robert Fripp never smiles is the residual effects of  Greg Lake passing gas.

Some people pass their wisdom and knowledge on this site. I, having neither, pass my silliness(and sometimes gas) to you guys...for better or worse.

That's why discipline is so important to him. As you all know, the 80s King Crimson was almost called "The Right Cheek Sneak" instead.

No, it must have been Greg - that's why the punks called ELP boring old farts.

I wonder if Fripp is smiling now? In this case maybe it was just a trouser smile?

Ah yes, thank you gdub! This proves that us prog-rockers can laugh and not take things so seriously all of the time as we sometimes do and are accussed of. By the way I didn't know that the English knew what burritos were in 1969? Are you sure it wasn't the Indian food? Lots of veggies ya know!
