Il 'Reale Impero Britannico' is in fact a 'Goblin' one off side project created for a soundtrack ( for contractual reasons they couldn't use the name 'Goblin') 'Goblin' recorded the whole soundtrack, but only have of the compostions( the better ones) are actually from the band mainly by keyboarder Simonetti. The overall athmosphere is seventies soul funk with prog keyboard lines on top. Not a major 'Goblin' record but a good listen with some nice melodies and solos (BTW to be added in the 'Goblin' discography)

PERIGEO/ PERIGEO SPECIAL/ NEW PERIGEO story: Perigeo/ Perigeo Special:
Tony Sidney (guitar)
Franco D'Andrea (keiboards)
Claudio Fasoli (sax)
Giovanni Tommaso (bass, contrabass and voice)
Bruno Biriaco (drums, percussions)
New Perigeo:
Maurizio Giammarco (sax)
Danilo Rea (keyboards)
Carlo Pennisi (guitars)
Giovanni Tommaso (bass)
Agostino Marangolo (drums)
The PERIGEO were one of the groups more popular in Italy in the 70's. Their genre was substantially a Jazz with Free parts (in the intro of the songs) with Swing song (but with much Rock guitars and sax) or, still, Funky Jazz (above all in the album "Alice"). Nevertheless never they were a Prog band if not for historical period of production.
The group is formed in Rome in 1971 and had immediately a contract with RCA Italiana and has published the album "Azimut" (1972) and of continue (in the pauses of intense live activity the besides Italian POP festivals and tournèe in France and England) "Abbiamo Tutti Un Blues Da Piangere" (1973), "Genealogia" (1974), "La Valle Dei Templi" (1975) and "Non è Poi Così Lontano" (1976), all characterized from warm and very Italian mentality (although Tony Sidney is American).
After 4 years of silence, thanks to a project ordered from RCA Italiana to Giovanni Tommaso (the writer of the greater part of the songs) the same Giovanni Tommaso recalls the od companions and reform the Perigeo. To celebrate the feeling found in rapid manner and the magical manners he remames the band PERIGEO SPECIAL. With the help of a lot of hosts it the good double concept album "Alice" (based on the story of Lewis Carroll) is born.
"Effetto Amore" of 1981 is a marginal album with a new formation including Carlo Pennisi and Agostino Marangolo from Flea and Goblin and Maurizio Giammarco from Blue Morning and Canzoniere del Lazio.
Personally I advice the first 4 albums and "Alice".

CRYSTALS story Carlo Degani: Lead Vocals, percussions
Giorgio Piazza: Bass Guitar (ex PFM)
Giorgio Santandrea: drums, percussions (ex Alphatarus)
Marcello Todaro: acoustic and electric guitars (ex Banco del Mutuo Soccorso)
Nanni Citivenga: guitars (ex Raccomandata Ricevuta Di Ritorno and samadhi)
Paolo Tofani (Area and Electric Frankenstein): composer
With a formation so it is weird that the CRYSTALS lasted so little. Besides awn a mystery because the Cramps record have not ever published their disc (appeared for the first time in 1992 for Mellow Records). In truth the album is little Italian, resembling more to the Led Zeppelin and certains English groups than not to the classic Italian Prog. It is not original like music because "Time Out" is 100% Led Zeppelin (arrengements and sound) and "Policeman" is a lot of Folk but still too Led Zeppelin.
The album, sung in English, is an interesting document for what would have been able to become a really interesting and important group for the Italian scene.
Discography:
1992: Crystals (recorded 1974) by Mellow Records MMP120
2003: Crystals (recorded 1974) by Akarma AK 1040 (with different gatefold sleeve cover)

excellent work, Andrea
![]() By the way, whattapity! Posidonian Fields is still not available here so I had to check for some other items...
![]() btw I've bought two more albums from the huge italian prog scene:
![]() 1- First a precious obscure gem by a famous pop italian singer songwriter: Riccardo Cocciante! Few people know his 1972 debut album is an excellent symphonic prog record. By the many guest musicians a certain Paolo Rustichelli!!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() 2 - I also bought Finisterre's 1999 album In Ogni Luogo!

I love that Finisterre album, althuogh I konw of people who dislike it. But I think this one and another I have by them (the name escapes me now) are fine albums and make for an enjoyable listen. They can be pretty experimental at times too. |

recently, while I was doing a search for Internet site list in my thread I have uncovered that Tony Pagliuca (keyboarder of Le Orme) collaborated with the Etno Prog group Malaavia (he is in PA, ouch!...) (www.malaavia.net). Entered in their site I was accompained from a Renaissance Prog really attractive and being able. Here another band from not to do to escape!!!
I will try to do mine their disc... And you does waited for?

Malaavia is pretty nice, I have Danze d'incenso and quite like it (although this is not mind blowing).
The cover art work of this album is very nice. |

Another site that I would want signal is that of the mythical singer Luciano Regoli (Raccomandata Ricevuta Ritorno, Samadhi and other then reappeared with the Roman Prog Metallers DGM) www.lucianoregoli.it . It it discussed alone and exclusively of its work of painter. Nevertheless I believe that always it sends off a mail for info also its activity of singer. You will discover a figurative painter in the better tradition (its Still-life are very attractive).
For its activity with the DGM that it is limit to the first three album ("Random Access Zone", "Change Direction" and "Wings Of Time") clicks on www.dgmsite.com.
