Word has it that Vrabel was brought in to add some leadership to the team. We need it.
Very happy today, though. These guys have really come in and made a statement.

Sorry to rain on the parade but Cassel will be a dud outside the NE system, why else do you think they felt fine getting rid of him for so little. Any QB capable of throwing a 5-10 yard slant would be a star in NE. That being said the Chiefs didn't give up enough to consider it a bad deal on their part. I do think they'd have been better off developing Thigpen as he played pretty damn well with no tools to work with last year. Vrabel to me is a head scratcher, there's nothing left in the tank for this guy defensively. Maybe they brought him in so that if Gonzo leaves they'll have a TE option (I am still a little bitter about Vrabels two season ending TD catches a few years back costing me my fantasy league championship, by 1 pt, a few years back). |
Unless you've got the gift of being prophetic, then maybe it should be a 'wait and see' rather than writing him off. The kid came in, filled in for a future hall of fame QB and won games. A far cry better than the Huard/Croyle show from the past couple of seasons.
He may flake out, but this team needs a young QB for the future rather than throwing money at a 32+ year old who had a few seasons left in him. Also hard to judge Cassel on one season. You'll NEVER hear me saying, "Well, we're playoff bound now!" I'm not smug enough to predict the future. But, I do know how bad the QB situation has been here and it's time to go into another direction.
Lastly, I'll take Pioli and Hayley's evaluation of talent over Peterson and Herm (or Vermeil, for that matter) any day of the week. The previous administrations had a long history of flame outs (Ryan Simms, anyone?). I'm more optimistic now than before.

As I said, they already have a young QB, his name is Thigpen, Tyler Thigpen. I don't think having played on a much better team in a system with no emphasis on arm strength (or throwing anything past 10 yards with Brady out) makes Cassel a better QB than Thigpen. They each have a season under their belt. And I do have a slight touch of the prophetic; I called Vince Young and Mike Vick busts while everyone was drooling on him. Of course I've said the same, and will continue to, for every running QB and so far it hasn't failed me. Learn how to throw the ball college QBs!

I'm not entirely sold on Cassel .. will be interesting to watch how he does this season, but would agree an improvement over thigpen and the cost wasn't too steep...
Bucs are obviously rebuilding, would've liked to see Brooks retire with the Bucs .. I get the defense is moving to the 3-4 and he doesn't fit etc.. but still.
The other moves I can live with. I didn't renew my tickets this year, but still plan on going to many of the games.
..and I can't believe Dawkins won't be back with PHI next year either. Really should pay attention to the off season, anyone have 3 huge DL we can have? Wadsworth already gone...

He was a bust as well, if you needed a ball thrown 100 mph at a WRs feet then he was your man though.

If that makes you prophetic, then I share that title because I knew they'd flame out. I've never liked that style of QB and they almost always fail. And I live in KC, so you don't need to tell me who Tyler Thigpen is. The guy is a hell of an athlete and if they want to use him in the offense, then give it a whirl; however, he doesn't have the tools to be an every down back. He was used basically as a white Vince Young or Michael Vick and his play relied on his feet and scrambling ability. E
