This seems really early, but they are playing pre-season games already so I say let's start the talk!
First, my New York Giants. A lot of talk about losing Strahan and Shockey. As for Shockey I say GOOD RIDDANCE! If you don't wanna be on the team, and are jut gunna talk sh*t then fine. The Giants didn't even use him during their playoff run. I'm a tad worried about their defense but not badly.
OH and I have to do it. Brett Favre. Is a legend and top 10 QB of all time. But if I was the Packers I would not take him back. They handled it completely wrong though. Just say, "Brett retired so we moved on, then he decided to come back, however we have started our plans already, have a good team, and have faith in Aaron Rodgers." Then just trade Favre for whatever you get.
Anyway, not sure what else to say but I'm looking foward to the 08 season
Go Giants!

I've made it clear that I wasn't the biggest Favre fan; but, I did like the way he played the game. That is past tense, though. I've lost any respect I had for him, and to hear how the fans have been towards Rodgers in training camp just sickens me. I don't have much to look forward to this season with the Chiefs being so young, but I just might become the biggest Packer fan because I'd love to see Rodgers have a good year and jam it down his throat.
Packer fans need to remember that Favre came to them with a lot of skepticism while he was a back up with Atlanta and he gave them 16 great years. His era is over and it would be refreshing to see them back this kid. They should also realize that Favre wasn't only disrespectful to the organization, but to (the fans) as well.

Brett Farve is throwing a hissy-fit in training camp right now. It's almost as if he's been TRYING to lose the collective respect of the football world this offseason.

I hope so, can talk football forever...but there's just nothing!
And Riley I agree man. The Favre thing is a mess, BOTTOM LINE: He retired, they moved on, he came back, they stuck to their guns and I applaud the Packers for it, end this drama fest Brett and go to Jets, (PLEASE not Tampa and cause more QB controversy). It may be weird, but he would NOT be the first team marquee player to go end his career on another team. And at least for me, I have lost a good bit of respect for Favre.
I just hope the Packers confidence in Rodgers will pay off. The team has a tough defense, good running game, great receivers, and a pretty good O-line. You don't NEED a Brett Favre to succeed with that.
I am just glad the G-men don't have to deal with any drama this offseason. It's weird. No talk about Tiki, Shockey, Eli, Coughlin, will the team manage 6 wins? ....I don't know whats goin on!!!

Brett the Jet? Doesn't seem right to me but maybe he'll give the fans something to watch. Being a Cowboys fan I doubt I'll see much of his playing except on the recaps but that's okay. The NFC East is going to be a battlefield this year and I won't have time to worry about what' s going on in the AFC.

hahhahahah.... oh... I hope the NY press has fun with with Brett the prima donna.... figure about the 20th interception he throws... the love-fest will be over. Green Bay did the right thing... was time to move on... for all his greatness... he only won one... and wasn't going any further than he had already taken them.

Exactly. And idk, Brett the Jet has a nice ring to it. Which is good considering he's a Jet now. I am just glad he didn't go to Tampa and cause more drama. I was curious to see how the Jets will be this year, (before Brett) because they've been BUSY
They beefed up their O-line with Alan Faneca and Damien Woody. Added Tony Richardson so that SHOULD improve their run game and help protect Brett. Not to mention on defense they added Calvin Pace and Kris Jenkins + Vernon Gholston who they drafted. With all these moves I think the Jets will be better, and Brett may not be at his peak anymore...but he's got 2 good receivers in Coles and Cotchery.
Maybe a New York Super Bowl Battle!!!!! To which Brett will be intercepted by the Giants again and retire

Tony Richardson played for KC for years and years. Not only was he a great fullback who knew how to block, but good hands coming out of the backfield. Could come in handy when Brett goes to 'improvise'. A stand-up guy with impeccable character. Really miss him on this team.
I was accused of disliking Favre and the Packers because of my in-laws last year (which was a tad insulting). If this makes that person feel better, I'm behind the Packers on this and hope they have a good season. What Favre did to them is inexcusable and the organization handled it the best they could. Especially when you consider the fact the Packers begged him not to retire, but does anyway. Then has a change of heart. Maybe he should be nicknamed Flaky Favre.

^ I couldn't agree more Eric.... he really did come out of this looking not so good... I joked about it.. but if he has another year like some of the past... and tosses a boatload of costly picks... the press there is going to eat him alive. He had a free pass in GB.. . he surely has NO such thing in a place like NY. A new team.. maybe a new system (not sure) ... and a QB whose work ethic (not to be confused with his toughness) has been questioned.. in fact.. he was the one who said it wasn't Sunday's he tired of.. it was Monday through Saturday.
I prophesize disaster.... or the biggest non-story of the year as he rides the bench...

And then I'm going to Ohio for college. OH BOY THE CLEVELAND BROWNS I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT IT'S LIKE TO LOSE EVERY GAME, NOT EVEN THE TITANS GAVE ME THAT SATISFACTION!

Say wah? Are you kidding? The Browns are on track to have their best year in......well a very long time. They were 10-6 last year! And they added Donte Stallworth +Shaun Rogers. If they get some more defense the Browns could be tough.
And about Tony Richardson. I agree 100%. Hes a GREAT player and in conjunction with their beefed up O-line should give Thomas Jones a good year. Plus some protection for Favre.
And one more side note. I hope Favre remembers his days of being GOD. Because here in NY he better take the team to the promise land, or he will be shredded.

yet what is even scarier....
they've been saying the same for the the last couple of years about Arizona and infamously the 49'rs last year. God knows who'll break out this year.... my darkhorse.... Houston. Quietly putting together a good team there.

VERY quietly....but they could be a tough team as well Houston. There's sooo many potential breakout teams, some will (Browns), some will fall flat (49ers) but if I have to pick a breakout team I'm sorry but I have to say the Jets. Not so much about Brett Favre, but the many many other pieces they've put around him. I'll be surprised if the team dosn't go 10-6.
Also, I think we should watch out for the Bills....

End of the 1st quarter and it's Chiefs 7 and Chicago 0. Offense looked very good on that first 80 yard drive. Turned a couple of negative plays into a first down and a good 6 yard run by Johnson. Second drive was mired by penalties and a sack. Offense committing WAY too many penalties, so far.
Chiefs' defense has kept Chicago to two punts so far. Not bad so far.

14-3 Chiefs at halftime. Starting QB, Brody Croyle, looked good. Very good at taking a 3-step drop and getting the ball out fast. Damon Huard drove them down in the final two minutes for the second touchdown.
Secondary seems to play too soft, but they haven't given up the big play. All in all, pleasantly surprised.

I was down at the Lions-Giants game tonight. Lions won 13-10. I guess that means that the Lions are going to the Super Bowl this year. Supposedly the Lions are working hard to feature a running game, but sure didn't see anything worthwhile on that end tonight. If it were up to me I would run almost all of their plays through Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson. Calvin Johnson stands 6 inches taller than any cornerbacks that are thrown at him. Just throw them up and let him get it.

I'm still not gunna say much about post season games. Sorry, but they really don't mean crap. Yea, you can get a good look at backups and see how they stand up, but even that they're playing against other 2nd/3rd stringers or a team not trying 100%
And rushfan, I watched that same game and I must agree about the running game. But, I DO like Kevin Smith and if your Lions can get get a running game, in conjunction with your 4 WR passing attack that could be a dangerous team.

Well until my Raiders recover which may not be until Al Davis stars in the next Mummy movie (as the mummy of course) then I root for Jacksonville because of my favorite hobbit on 'roids Maurice Jones -Drew.
For the Raiders I am looking forward to seeing how Jamarcus Russel and Darren McFadden fare this year, but I fear the O-line may not do them justice and I am not sold ion the Raiders wide outs either. Lets see if the defense figured out how to stop the run as well.
Jacksonville on the other hand has an experienced offense and defense back and I think this is the year they beat out Indy for the AFC south.

Your raiders stole my Giants Gibril Wilson so I can tell you, that you've got a pretty safety there. And I know Al Davis may be more about the flash...because why on Earth did they take run DMC???? I thought for sure oakland would take Glenn Dorsey.
Ah well

^ I think because he was better than any other back they had and will add an element in the passing game as well that frankly has been missing since Marcus Allen. I think Kiffen will try and use him like he used Bush at SC. As for Dorsey if he was to get a lineman then it should have been o the O-line not the D-line. I think they are ok on the D side. Not great but ok.

Don't know the Raiders well to be honest. Not a fan of Bush....over rated.... but McFadden IS one hell of a player, and running, receiving, or the occasional trick pass, he should help the team. You guys also have Michael Bush, (who I really liked). Is he healthy for this season?? That could be a potent 1-2 flash and smash run attack.

Found myself rooting for the Packers tonight for the first time in a LONG time. I thought Rodgers looked pretty good considering the pressure he was under. And that pick wasn't his fault...should've been caught.
The touchdown to Jones when the helmet came shooting off was pretty cool. Good job, Aaron.

Yes, it is only the pre season BUT It is official now: The Brett Favre era is over
I thought A Rod played well. He was poised in the pocket, made mostly good throws, a TD and as you said that pick was 100% not his fault. I really really hope Rodgers does well this season and I still think he will. He has a great team around him.

Between Derek "Who?" Anderson, Kellen Winslow Jr, Jamal Lewis, and a couple of key offseason pickups Brian already mentioned, the Browns are on pace to top last year's stellar 10 wins. There's no shame in missing the playoffs by the tiebreaker (to the Titans, btw), that's just bad luck. They'd have had a playoff spot if they were an NFC team.

Sorry for the wait. It is very difficult for me to post at this place anymore. I just cant wait for the long delays on screen redraws and time outs.
Anyway Yes Michael Bush is healthy and looks like a beast! As does Fargus and McFadden so the running game is in good shape at least from what I saw against the 49'rs the other night. Interested to see how they do against the Titans this week. The real question is can they pass protect for Russell.
Reggie Bush wasn't even the best back in LA when he was in college. He was fast but never, ever ran through the tackles.

Glad to hear Garion...I really liked Michael Bush and I was sooo hoping he'd recover from his injury. And yea, Reggie Bush was all flash and made everyone go oooooo, wow! But IMO he should only be a returner/3rd down back in the NFL. He's proven he can't carry the ball consistently while his former team mate and very overweight Lendale White has really come through.
And to Bronco fans, be patient with Cutler!! He's still developing. I had to put up with Eli for 3 and a half years, but it paid off better then I could've imagined.

Bush if he stay healthy is going to be something. The Raiders got him in steal in the 4th round. The guy is huge and just bowls over people. He hits the line very quick as well. I hope he gets some reps with the 1's this week.
On Bush: Not only Lendale White but Maurice Jones-Drew who played at UCLA at the same time. He litterly willed them to a 10-2 record 3 years ago with his running, receiving, kick and punt returns.
Cutler will be ok but I have to wonder where are the hot receivers in the AFC west? There used to be so many and now so few.

Never be ashamed of your team? thanks JJ, so i am coming out of the closet and viva Miami Dolphins.
Glad to see Parcells here, i know the guys will play hard, but the quarterback position is a BIG issue.
For the first game of the season, we will have Pennington quarterbacking against his old team, the Jets and King Favre.....intriguing match-up! ...as long Pennington doesn't get hurt as he used to.
Don't think Parcells is ready to lose his first game as a dolphin, but he is not playing

The problem was that the Lions had the toughest second-half schedule in football last year. They had an easy first half, and everybody went "OMG 10 wins?!" and then they got dominated by all the good teams they had to play.

The Giants are going 8-8 this year. The offense is exactly the same (Shockey didn't play that much last year), and the defense has gotten worse on every front: they lost the best pass-rusher in football at D-end, they lost both outside linebackers from last year (and Kiwi went back to the D-line to make up for Osi), and they lost their best defensive back. CRAP.

Hi guys, hope you don't mind a bit of input from a Packers fan in the UK. We don't get too much coverage over here, but at least one game per week live is not too bad. Never get to see much of the Packers though .
Unbelievable goings-on with Favre / Rodgers. Favre was/is a legend, but time to move on I say. You can't afford to flip-flop when you reach his age. Teams to have plans for the season you know Brett! I've seen nothing of Rodgers, what do you guys in the know think of him?
I presume the Patriots are big favourites, but I was impressed by the Chargers last season and think they could go very close.
For an outsider, how about the Eagles?
Once again, sorry for intruding in your "business" guys but I've been a fan of the game since the early 80s. Steve Largent, Dwight Clark, Marcus Allen etc. Nostalgia eh?
Cheers,
Roj.

Everybody who's seen Rogers practice seems to have a lot of faith in his ability to lead the Packers to another great season.
I like the Chargers as well. Great defense and the best running back of the decade.

Also, a random note: I was curious how Michael Turner would do in ATL as a main back now. As of RIGHT NOW: he has 18 carries for 196 yards and 2 TD's. Not too mention the explosive Jerious Norwood, and Matt Ryan at QB. Maybe the Falcons wont be quite as dismal as people think??

As predicted, the Pats beat the Chiefs, but it wasn't a stompin' like I thought. Actually, the best thing that could've happen to us would be to have Croyle go out and Huard come in...which happened. Croyle just can't move the ball.
As for Brady's injury, it wasn't a cheap shot. If anything, it's the offensive coordinator's fault. How many friggin' passes did they come out with? When they did run the ball, they ran it effectively, but still dropped Brady back to pass. You put your QB in that many positions to get hurt then he's going to get hurt.

Yea, I missed the game but a 17-10 victory the Chiefs....not what I expected. And the news of Brady being injured....well, I'll keep my feelings to myself.
Lemme ask you E-dub did the pats use their pass crazy offense like last year? (While Brady was playing of course) Just wondering if they were going to try and keep that style

That wasn't a cheap hit at all, it was great hustle and great awareness. Those damn Patriots aren't gonna let us know how serious the injury is, though. They'll probably just list him as "questionable" and leave it at that.

To be honest, I'm not all that familiar with the Pats; but, considering all of the TD's Brady threw last year it's safe to assume that the passing game is a huge part of their offense. I just couldn't believe how many times he threw during the first couple of series--he pretty much set up in the shotgun with an empty backfield and teed off. They finally went to the ground and very effectively, but they still wanted to go through the air.
Actually, when Cassle came in we had them on their own 2. First two running plays darn near resulted in safeties. Then Cassle drops back and throws a bomb on 3rd down and proceeded to march the Pats for a TD. Can't really fault the defense when your offense can't sustain a drive or score.
Too bad the Chiefs couldn't pull it out, though. If I see another fade pass I'm going to puke. I hardly ever see it work.

Well then, yea...they're using the same offense as last year
And yea..those secretive Pats will probably just list Brady as "questionable" every week instead of saying anything. All Im gunna say is this: I would not exactly be upset if Brady was too miss a good chunk of the season.......

And my DOLPHINS were not that bad............lost, sure but showing possibilities, but what killed them was the lack of skilled wide receivers....drop, drop, drop after drop.
Sure the coaching staff is looking at who may be still available out there to help!!

Colts are looking sloppy in a way that I've never seen them; their first drive ended with two time-outs called at scrimmage and a delay-of-game penalty.

I love John Madden. He's already explained to us how the easiest way to get around a bad QB is by running the ball and that a defensive back's job is to either interrupt a pass or hit a wide receiver after the catch.

Ya- Madden always sounds like he's choking on butter. It's nauseating.
The Colts will snap out of it- it's also a VERY good defense they're playing.

Payton will definitely be in better shape in the second half. It's odd that so far it seems his feet are as good as ever but he isn't as sharp mentally as before.

I'm glad they played well, and not to take too much away from them, but that Rams secondary was about as bad as it gets.

Yup, Tom Brady out for the season!
Better hope Matt Cassell can.....no, I can't even finish that sentence. Well, they could try going back to an old school smashmouth football? That's what I would try.
And the Colts offense does look anemic, but I wouldn't worry. They need to knock off a lot of rust. Peyton needs this game, or another to get back into the groove. Not to mention he was without Harrison basically all of last year. It'll take a bit for the Peyton-Marvin duo to get going, but it will.

Fixed. I figured the Rams might be able to pull out five or six wins this year if they could keep their O-line healthy but today they showed that even their five best aren't any good.

I'd like to stay up for the Bears and Colts, but want to work out tomorrow so I won't feel bad for skipping Tuesday morning. I plan on watching the Vikes and Packers, and then staying up for Oakland and Denver. Man, I love it when football season rolls around.
When the teams break for training camp I'll just give my wife that look because she knows I love football and she hates it. The closer it gets I'll go, "Honey?" She'll roll her eyes and go, "Yes, yes, I'm ready for some football" (I'd always wail it to her like Hank Jr.). Now that it's in full gear I just smile and she'll say, "Yes, I'm ready!"
Sorry for Brady going down at the hands of the Chiefs. Like I said, not a cheap shot. You just can't put a guy back there to pass that many times. It was ridiculous when you consider the Chiefs had a tough time stopping the run.

Belicheat's weakness has definitely been his refusal to use the run. Maroney is a good back, but his numbers were mediocre last year because the Pats played the entire second half of the season from that four-wide shotgun formation, which is not exactly conducive to running the ball.

I think that I actually busted a gut laughing in the 1st quarter of the Lions - Falcons game. The Lions are so absolutely pathetic. I was predicting 6 wins coming into the season now I'm thinking that will only be if we count the 4 exhibition wins. The Pats without Brady are still in much better shape than the Lions.

I think the Pats will still win at least 9 or 10 this year. They still have one of the best defenses, one of the best O-lines, and one of the best receiving groups in football. If there is any environment where a mediocre quarterback can thrive, it's New England.

Even more so than the Chiefs? They simply can't move the ball. Larry Johnson just isn't the same player without Roaf or Shields either opening up huge holes or leading the way with a block on the sweeps. And Croyle? I feel bad for the kid, but he plays to simply NOT make mistakes. He dinks and dunks the ball and never throws the ball more than 10-15 yards. The Chiefs cause two turnovers on the Patriots first two series and can't do anything. If Huard wouldn't have come in, I gaurantee you we wouldn't have scored a single touchdown.
Helen Keller could evaluate talent better than the Chief's coaching staff.

So, Week 1 and what have we here. What the? How did the Chargers lose to Carolina? St Louis blown away by Philly. The Rams are no great shakes but watch out for the Eagles. They're in a very tough Division but could go a long way.
Bad news for Brady, but at least that may even things up a little. Still, an away win at KC in those circumstances is big.
Tonight it's my Packers against the Vikes. Go Pack!! KO is much too late over here unless I get insomnia, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

Randy friggin' Moss just p*sses me off. Pollard apologized up and down to Brady himself, reports from the Pats say it wasn't a cheap shot; yet, ol' Moss (who shouldn't judge ANYONE with his track record) starts crying cheap shot. He's on there saying how he's not a 'dirty player'. Dude, you're a friggin' wide receiver!!! You catch bombs and block worth a crap. You have no opportunities to be a dirty player. The guy's a jag!

If that ^ is right, what Moss says, he needs some new contact lenses/glasses. There was absolutely nothing sinister in Brady's injury, just one of those things that will happen to all QBs every so often in their career. Impact took place well before he released the ball in any event.
