It is Monday in Turkey now!!!
Let fun be victorious! The "good vs. evil" thing is boring, don't you think? Or, You can partake in casting your votes for the good or evil! The classical is always alluring, or bewitching! You are free to be as creative as you like, as long as your nominated song makes sense. The theme is "magic", but you can also take magic figuratively. Like in a love song where someone puts a spell on another. As the DM (Dungeon Magician), I have some rules here. Here they are: 1-) Nominate a single song that cannot be found in PA's database for the competition, and SHARE IT IN YOUR ORIGINAL (first) POST WITH EXPLAINING THAT, like "My nomination is 'X'." You don't have to hurry for determining your ultimate and single nomination. You can always edit your original post, until the voting begins. You may add songs that are out of the competition, but be sensible. Don't share too many songs. Also, your nomination aside, you can share "Prog Archived" songs too. Don't lie to me! You're too eager to share Focus - Hocus Pocus here. Too ravenous to eat the Hamburger Concerto, aren't you? 2-) When the voting begins, we'll do what we usually do: picking 3 favourites and voting for them. Please do not vote for your own nomination. 3-) Anyone can participare, and even if one does not join the competition, s/he can still vote for his/her favourites when I declare that we can begin voting. 4-) If a noob votes before the voting begins, we'll cast all our deadly spells on him/her. Or I have a better idea... We'll combine our magic to cast a spell that will swap his/her mind with Donald Trump's. If any of the participants has a better idea, it can be considered instead. I cannot think of a better punishment/curse as of now. Have fun! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Here's my nomination, a dark song. You know, I'm "true neutral". So I'm also cool with the dark powers! Erang - The Temple of Elemental Evil Alaska - The Sorcerer: Here's a song for Greg (Logan). I figure he'll surprisedly enjoy seeing Christopher Lee in a fantastical song, if he hasn't already: Rhapsody of Fire - The Magic of the Wizard's Dream And a bonus. The singer here is me: Knightmare - The Enchantress ![]() Edited by Shadowyzard - August 08 2021 at 05:31 |

Edited for nomination:
Nomination will be "House By The Sea," by Iron & Wine Spun three times around, clicked my heels, uttered an appropriate incantation, and that one appeared to me in a vision. Original Post: I don't yet know what my nomination will be, but magic can sometimes take a bit of time. The magical number 3 I will offer up to thee, however. Lots of magic etc in common songs, I'm going for a bit more obscurity (as I try to, generally) and sort of approaching obliquely. These three are more about the practice of magic and enchantment. Two are for the darker side of things, one for the lighter. I will start with the light. The Waterboys with "A Pagan Place" Country Joe & The Fish "Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine" Iron & Wine "House By The Sea"

Let's see if I got this right (and my way of linking to a bandcamp song works). If so, The Unseen - Evidently the Spirits Have Taken Over is my nomination: and Toadstone - Circle of Stones is just a bonus: -well its dark magic I suppose

^ We normally don't use Bandcamp as a source, but I'm not sure if it is some sort of a rule. If it were up to me, I'd say OK to that.

It's been done, just can't get onto George's compiled playlist, as those are all YTs.

^ Ah, sure. I tend to encourage people to use only Youtube as the source, especially if the song nominated can also be found on Youtube.

My nomination is:
Modena City Ramblers: Radio Tindouf This song is set in Algeria, the country where Radio Tindouf broadcasts. In appearance it is a war song, but everything is transfigured through an evocative narrative, where the news arrives with an aura of mystery, and where there are men who dream of landscapes never seen before, like an oasis in the desert, and for this reason I believe that this song can somehow start from reality to overflow into magic. Out of competition: ----Francesco Guccini: Il vecchio e il Bambino. In this song an old man takes a child by the hand and looking at the Po Valley, now urbanized and industrialized, describes to him what it was like when there was a peasant world. Finally, the Child asks him to tell another fable ... ----Lou Reed: Magic and Loss I love this song by Lou Reed. Edited by jamesbaldwin - July 26 2021 at 20:00 |

Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

Out of competition bonus video. Since Nickie brought up that 3 is a magic number, I feel like I should post Blind Melon's cover of the Schoolhouse Rock classic.

Haha, you're asking addicts to "please drink responsibly". I probably will restrict myself this time as trying to avoid artists that I had nominated before becomes more difficult by the poll. There is one super-marvellous song "Witches" that a Kate Bush fan and talented musician acquaintance of mine (unfortunately I don't have contact to the guy anymore so I can't ask him to put it on youtube) did about 1990, which I got on a tape at the time and I may be the only person in the world who has it in digital form... won't work here I'm afraid. So I go for the German heavy folk band Subway to Sally who do some magical themes. Liebeszauber (Magic of love) Die Hexe (The Witch) |

Out of competition, as FM Einheit and actually this album have featured recently in one of these polls: The Nena one came to my kind, too, by the way.

If you don't know who Mick Karn is, he was bassist for the band Japan which also included Richard Barbieri from Porcupine Tree. The song that I am posting is going to be my final nomination because it is going to be hard to find a song that I would nominate above this one. On this track you can hear just how great of a bassist Karn was, though unfortunately, he has passed away mostly underrated. Another plus for this track is that Steven Wilson also guests on guitar.
Here is my nomination: Mick Karn - Plaster the Magic Tongue The other two examples I'm posting here are listed in the Archives, so they don't count. However, I thought they should be a part of this excellent theme. I know most participants in these polls usually don't get a chance to listen to the alternative posts, so I'm putting them here for those that have a few minutes to try them out. Blue Oyster Cult has always been one of my favorite bands and "Imaginos" is one of their best albums and probably the most prog-oriented. This track comes from that album... Blue Oyster Cult - Les Invisibles And finally another great band from the Archives that tends to be overlooked a bit overall, but is quite appreciated in the site...
