In terms of core music discussion, I think so too. However, they also have a off topic active forum for discussing stuff like films and non prog stuff. The reply UI is slightly better there since it supports keyboard shortcuts for stuff like Bold, Italic. However, they give a more serious vibe which necessarily is not better.

Fine of course and (who would I be anyway trying to stifle anyone's freedom) but I'm not enjoying this playing one off against another vibe at all. Of course they will have some differences in tone and type of discussion etc. The big thing here though for me is the database. This gives PA substance for me and grounds everything. In general I don't do any chat only forums anymore. In fact this is the only forum on the net I visit per se. I used to do 5 or more forums twenty years ago inc a football discussion forum, and at least 3 forums linked to the artist (Genesis, IQ and Greg Lake) but they got very boring in the end. I didn't find anything particularly interesting about PE but in any case I'm not going to just repeat the same things over there that I say here. It just seems pointless.

![]() I don't have a problem with posting on both sites. If I'm in the mood for some more edge, I go to Progarchives. If I want to chill out and/or take a break from the constant prog polls, I go to Progressiveears. Edited by Hrychu - February 17 2025 at 01:27 |

you seem to know quite a lot about Svetonio - which makes sense since he's part of you ![]()
OMG, you're also guilty of high treason??

^ as far as I know Svetonio is only ever adding releases, but rarely promoting them. Strange guy.

I can understand your need for taking break from the prog polls, but on the other hand, if you want something with more edge, just have a look at the album classifying in Paul's polls. ![]() |

PE keeps messing with my login info. I haven't been there in quite a while as a result.(function(){function c(){var b=a.contentDocument||a.contentWindow.document;if(b){var d=b.createElement('script');d.innerHTML="window.__CF$cv$params={r:'913ea6eeb892d692',t:'MTczOTg4ODM2Ni4wMDAwMDA='};var a=document.createElement('script');a.nonce='';a.src='/cdn-cgi/challenge-platform/scripts/jsd/main.js';document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(a);";b.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(d)}}if(document.body){var a=document.createElement('iframe');a.height=1;a.width=1;a.style.position='absolute';a.style.top=0;a.style.left=0;a.style.border='none';a.style.visibility='hidden';document.body.appendChild(a);if('loading'!==document.readyState)c();else if(window.addEventListener)document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',c);else{var e=document.onreadystatechange||function(){};document.onreadystatechange=function(b){e(b);'loading'!==document.readyState&&(document.onreadystatechange=e,c())}}}})();< height="1" width="1" style=": ; top: 0px; left: 0px; border: none; visibility: ;">

It's easy enough to avoid the polls, I find. So many sub forums here to explore. I often read through interesting to me discussions at PA by looking at the topics being looked at in Active Users. I especially do like those from the site's early days arguing things like "Should Opeth be included in Prog Archives". The answer is yes of course and that was solidified more over the years and music CAN be both metal and Prog. Case in point, Prog Metal. Of course such topics are locked, but if done occasionally I am happy to unlock interesting/ entertaining ones where people think that they have something interesting/ entertaining to add in response (rather than, say, bumping just to bump). A complaint with the PA forum that I have seen is that it is so very list-oriented, be it polls, top ten etc. I believe that there is plenty of space for a very wide variety of forms of discussion and topics (some things are off the table). One can build new topics and I think its easy to find topics of interest. If you don't like the space, create your own spaces that work for you (and are within the site rules) at PA. We have a big community but a lot are in the woodwork much of the time. One might draw some of those people out with really thought-provoking topics -- ideally thought-provoking, may be controversial, but also conducted with tact, diplomacy and consideration ideally. Can be tough to get the right balance as edgy tends to be entertaining. I don't use PE, but do look at it now and then. If I saw a topic that I found super engaging and really had something I wanted to share in in, then I would post there. I do like free-wheeling humorous threads where we can be creative in our writing (but not of the Just for Fun type here usually, not for me) and might look for those kinds there. I used to love to write stories and build humour with like-minded people but I don't feel that I am as creative as when I first started using forums in my 20s. |

Seems like every time I come to look around at PA here I end up at YouTube. So lately I’ve been trying to pass over the pages of YouTube links.
