A more affable title than ELP's In the Hot Seat, imo, and I'm sure unlike ELP's, it wouldn't be a train-wreck of an album (such uncanny talent from those Can people).

^^ I did not know Yazoo that I recall, but really liked the track, and while I consider Page and Plant as individuals to be household names from my background, I don't think the song or album is hugely known. I loved that track. Looking at ratings elsewhere, one could go either way for the side-category (better-known). I don't know which song is better known, but the earlier Yazoo album is better-known. My inclination would have been to put Page & Plant in the better known, as I didn't know better, but I too don't know.

Mila: We had eight, which times three makes a nice 24, but Ronstein has chimed in too. If you want to put all three of mine on the same line with ORs (this or this or that), I'm fine with that, to accommodate all others threesomes (if I got how this was planned to be done if space available). The votes aren't really that important to me in and of themselves -- just happy to have mine in the playlist.

Which of the last two tracks do you consider less or better-known respectively?

I don't know how to answer your question. it depends who you ask. Someone who likes 80s music and synth-pop would know Yazoo. Led Zeppelin fans and people that enjoy classic rock and hard rock would be familiar with the Page & plant album.

So if we have to choose 2 songs, my final nominations are Remina and Page/Plant. Smile
You are absolutely right, better known is a relative term. Initially I wanted to specify that a little in the description but then decided to keep it simple. I would say that better known here refers to artists or releases that are or were very successful internationally and to those that are very popular among prog fans.

We have two categories. For the main category (probably) less known artists or releases you can nominate two tracks and for the side category you can nominate one track. Therefore you could also bring Yazoo if you like. Smile

Thanks Greg! I'm happy that more people are joining in. I'm interested in having my two tracks for the main categry. I can easily do without the track for the side category.

Maybe 'I prophesy disaster' could offer another spot to Ronstein since he (IPD) has suggested two entries by the same band for the main category? Or maybe someone else incl. Ronstein could offer one of their three spots in the poll?

Thanks so much for the appreciative posting.

It 4:30 am here now, too early to be up on a weekend. I expect that some might growl about one of my two entries in the "main category" but as Tony the Tiger (a cereal mascot) might say, "It's Grrreat!" He might be the only one to say that, but I like it with the other two.

I wasn't convinced that Andy (Ronstein) was mentioning those officially for inclusion in the future poll, rather than just some favourites, but I like Andy and would like his inclusion in the proceedings. If I'm not mistaken, and I often am, it looks like Cristi is only going with two of his suggestions -- one from the main category (lesser/ little known) and one from the side category (better known or known well).

We choose two songs in the main category, which is for lesser known ones, and one song in the side-category for better known ones. You can go go with all three of yours, but then decide which two you want as the "main category" ones and which one you choose as the "side-category" choice (I might go with the Yazoo as one of my two main category choices and Page and Plant as my one side-category choice, but I don't know which song is better known). I really enjoyed both tracks (from Yazoo and Page and Plant), so would be pleased to see you including both.

^ But I would also like people to listen to the Remina song, it's a great new band with a lot of talent, with an amazing vocalist (Heike Langhans )
So is it two songs, three songs? I'm confused.  Confused

^ It's three songs total (2 and one). Two songs for the main category, and one song for the side-category. Remina would be in the main category, and you have to decide between the others which should be in the main category (lesser known) and which should be in the side-category (better-known). Hope this helps.

Or
Main Category: Remina and Yazoo
Side-Category: Page & Plant

It's up to you where you want to put Yazoo and Page & Plant in terms of the categories. I'd put the song that I think would be better-known in the side-category, if you think that might well be the Yazoo, then yahoo!

^ Well, I think it does, or at least potentially does, which is why Mila asked you about it before "Which of the last two tracks [the two not Remina] do you consider less or better-known respectively."

From the OP:

Quote Feel free to also bring some of your favourite well-known acts. These may participate in a separate category.

For the main category everyone can nominate up to 2 tracks and for the side category 1 each (optional).

Depending on the number of participants you will have 3 or maybe one more vote in the main category and 1 vote in the side category. You cannot vote for your own contributions.

so Remina and Page & Plant - main category

Mila, if you need an extra poll slot, you can discard my Buggles nomination... (I think the lesser known nominations - in general - are more interesting to keep).

Thank you Kees, that's very kind of you! I pm-ed Andy and am waiting for his reply. Either way I would like to start the poll tomorrow around noon because many of us are most likely to find time to listen to the songs on weekends. I will gladly get back to you if necessary.

Actually, I'd like to submit a track from the Fred Frith and Hardy Fox album:

Fred Frith and Hardy Fox - Who Will Release Me? (from 1:17 to 4:59 of the entire album)

or as an embedded video of the entire album:
