My first two listenings of "History & Prospects" was certainly not impossible, Nogbad. In fact, I found it as an interesting story telling, and the music was not unfamiliar with some of all my hitherto music listening.

Yep indeed, I was trying to compile a list based on a consensus and also stuck to one album per band. Haken - The Mountain is the newest album on my list along with BBT - English Electric (One) and IQ - The Road Of Bones. These do seem to garner massive praise and although not my favourite albums by those artists I do like them a lot. We need the modern 'classics' as well the older ones otherwise prog is inevitably a dead thing.

You have a good point there, richardh. On the other hand, it can be argued that status as classics has to be deserved by many years appreciation, so it has to be some old modern albums. Smile

Trying to stick with the theme, I skipped specific albums that I might have considered for a personal top 20 by "not universally loved/or relatively obscure" bands/artists such as: Curved Air, National Health (as I would choose their debut), Henry Cow (Unrest), Spirogyra, Guapo, Egg, Family, High Tide, East of Eden, Dr. Z, Gnidrolog, ELO... I even went for Aqualung over Benefit, but I probably got some of it wrong. As Yes (Fragile) and Renaissance (Cards) are missing, they're probably at 21 and 22.

in 50 years only Dark Side of the Moon will probably be remembered I suspect. We are talking about prog at the end of the day
