I would never actively choose to listen to Stairway (I heard it way too much in the 70s, and have not yet recovered from the overkill, so it still sounds trite to me, other than the guitar solo near the end), but might choose "Child in Time", so it gets my vote

I think Robert Plant would have woted fot Child in Time (becouse he is so tired about StH becouse it is the only Led Zeppelin song that are playd on comercal radio) in all interviews he have said that he litarly hate that song for that reason (even thoe he have become milionair becouse of it)

I also read some place that he was willing to bann the song from being playd on radio

It's weird seeing these bumped polls. I look at my post on page one which was made over eight years ago and it feels like I wrote that yesterday (and my opinion hasn't changed in that time). I voted for Zepp despite it not being a particular favourite and Bombay Calling over Child in Time still.

Edit: I will add something that goes beyond my initial post in this thread. I think that I would have liked Child in Time more had I not already been familiar with It's a Beautiful Day's Bombay Calling (it's a bit like my sometime bias against movie and TV show remakes). It is a good song in its own right, and both bands based their tracks on Vince Wallace's theme according to Wallace. Wallace claims he came up with it in 1962 and taught it to LaFlamme , but the first Bombay Calling recording is credited to LaFlamme later of It's a a Beautuful Day, plus Vince Wallace, by The Orkustra (1967). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABkV4_Dv6ac

Well....imho Stairway is the better track.......and Zep the better and more interesting band.

I always thought Deep Purple were  one of those bands that came up with an interesting rock song now and then but ultimately a mediocre hard rock band with a very good guitarist.

This result is surprising me. Thought Zeppelin would run away with this.

Stairway to Heaven can lay claim to being my favourite song when I was 10, but I've found Child In Time has held up a lot better over time. Tongue

Really have always loved both, but because Stairway´s got more sensitivity (Child´s more macho) it got my vote.

It's a dead heat! One more vote for Stairway and it would be a tie. Funny, I would vote for Stairway if I had the ability to vote... - - I like both songs though, as many have already said on here, but maybe because I've heard both songs about 6 times (I'm a young-un) that I chose the song that's (probably) most people's favorite (of the two) after the first time they heard it (radio overplay over the years has changed that previously stated opinion of those who initially liked it).

My thought's exactly - although the Made in Japan version beats The Song Remains the Same version - but let's stick to the studio versions for this comparison.

Holy staircases Batman!  This poll started in 2009!
Miss Finnforest's (Jim) posts now-a-days, but agree with his statement here.  Stairway it is...

Hairway to Steven, as others have said, is just SO classic. Deeper, too.

I love Child in Thyme, but just tonight, coincidentally, over a few beer, when it came up on one of my many "Classics" playlists, I skipped it after a minute. I can't always take its histrionics.

Funny: I don't think Stairway made it into any of those playlists. I have simply heard it too many times but still respect it tremendously as one of the all-time top iconic rock songs. (Likewise the Beatles: none of their songs made my list, but they are my top band ever. They practically raised me--and prepared me for Zep & Purple!)
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.
