^ I was thinking about voting for "The Crunge" yesterday for its 9/8 time, the tricky rhythm, and the funk flavor, though after that I thought they might have done more progressive things.

Well the absence of the song caused an uproar here didnt it? the fact is Achilles Last Stand definitely wins it even tho it aint on the list. I heard it again today a few times and I cant get it outta my skull now "ahaha! ahaha!ahaha! ahaha! ahaha! ahaha! ahaha! ahaha!ohhhoooooooohooooooohooohohohooooo! ohhhoooooooohooooooohooohohohooooo"Sheer brilliance really.

What I don't understand is why so many people are voting for "Achilles" when this band did far more progressive things like "Kashmir" (a long track in 3/4 (6/4) featuring the Mellotron and the flanger effect).

Achilles Last Stand just varies a little more than Kashmir and that riff is kind of annoying in my opinion too repetitive. Is it in 3/4 or 6/4???. Personally Page's playing on that song is my favorite playing of his I don't like Led Zeppelin that much

^ Maybe you are concerned with repetition, but I'm just concerned with texture in general - the instrumentation and diversity in musical ideas. What about "Stairway", people? How is it less progressive than "Achilles"?

^ Here goes the "have you heard it" again. What makes you think I haven't? Because if I haven't, I wouldn't be discussing this, right? Trust me, man, I've heard "Achilles" a number of times.

That song goes through so many different passages and it changes up on you and it is definitely textured although not with Mellotrons like Kashmir

^ It only has about four-or-so passages that sound very similar to each other. And that goes on for ten minutes. That's not "many" in my book; that sounds to me as if they've run out of ideas for the track.

No it doesn't it and they don't sound similar to each other has about seven or so for a 10 minute song, I think you to give it another listen  how about that bassline does Kashmir have anything like that?Achilles Last Stand is not an easy song to play on guitar at least for me(cuz I kinda suck but I'm getting there)

Why do you think people are voting for it then??ConfusedConfusedI don't know what song you are listening to??

There's riff 1 1a,2a 2b,3, 4a 4b, 4c 4d, 5a 5b 5c 5d, 6a, 7a 7b 7c 7d you get my point

^ First of all, I don't understand your nomenclature. Second of all, all of these musical ideas sound very similar to me. It's like as if I was listening to the same "section" for ten minutes. For all I know, you can't convince me otherwise.

I'm not trying to and I could say the same for Kashmir

My nomenclature says that there many different riffages through out that song it's definitely more than four
