Very good list, apart from forgetting Achilles
However, Since I've been, Tea For One and Nobody's Fault are nothing prog, IMHO

But, anyway, I could hardly vote for "Kashmir", because of its repetitive and obsesional structures, or "Dazed and Confused" which I remember as being rather usual in its writing (verse-verse-chorus-verse or do I have a wrong memory of this song?) |

Depending on which live version you watch, No Quarter or Kashmir could win the poll. However, as it is on record, they're not really very "progressive" at all.

My picks are: #1. Achilles Last Stand #2. The Song Remains the Same #3. For Your Life #4. Over the Hills and Far Away #5. No Quarter #6. Kashmir, Stairway t Heaven, and Dazed n Confused--just barely qualifying(although "dazed&Confused live was performed progressively). To answer the question of the poll: ... I don't know, but certainly NOT "Achilles Last Stand". It's got only about three-four musical ideas (and that goes on and on and on for ten minutes!) that sound very similar to each other in character. No diversity in texture and character almost at all. So not progressive. Now, some of the choices on this poll are equally progressive and some are so progressive that it's just so hard for me to care. To sum up, I choose not to choose. It's pointless for me to pick just one.

When the Levee Breaks. Weird time signatures, flanges, backward echoes, compressed drums, changing motifs every 12 bars. If there is such a thing as "progressive blues", then this song is a definitive composition of the genre.

Carrouselambra is the most obviously prog-intended The Crunge has amazing polyrythmics ! Built on those silly poor mellow riffs, No Quarter has become this incredible out-of-there-ish studio track, my fav LZ, long time ! Played live it sounds like another bluesy song I probably wouldn't have noticed as a newcomer. |

Achilles Last Stand just varies a little more than Kashmir and that riff is kind of annoying in my opinion too repetitive. Is it in 3/4 or 6/4???. Agreed ... and by definition definitly the one piece that is "progressive" ... and he can explain it to you really well in "It's Gonna Get Loud" ... I like LZ a lot, but I really think that stretching this to progressive is a bit scary ... although by the time we put the distinctions side by side, LZ will come off more progressive than half the bands we DID call progressive. I have fond memories of the age of bootlegs and some of these by this band! Four Stix, my favorite under appreciated LZ track. I love how the 5/4 and 3/4 sections fit together. I don't know if it's their most prog but I love it.

Agreed. Other tracks on IV get all the notice (Stairway, Levee, Rock & Roll, Black Dog, Evermore, Going to California), but it's Four Sticks and Misty Mountain Hop that are the real backbone of this album. Such an amazing album, one that's hard to appreciate because of its ubiquity (every song got massive air play on AOR stations in the US in the 70s/80s).
