So, there are three singers with a characteristic expression, sometimes turning into (unpleasant for someone ) shriek. Which one of these is your favorite and why?

Robert Plant's shrieks have an uncontested sound which gives them added value. Gillan has the advantage of his name, but only for Dutch-speaking readers (gillen = to shriek).

I voted for Geddy, although I did like him better after he stopped shrieking.
Robert Plant would have been an obvious choice, since I love Zeppelin so much, but in the end I had to admit that the few Zeppelin moments I dislike are primarily due to him. Ian Gillan has the best pipes of the three, but I'm just not as enthusiastic about Purple. |

I'd pick Ian if only for his work in the original 1970 studio recording of Jesus Christ Superstar. Oh yeah, that and his stuff with friggin' Black Sabbath.

Great day for stumbling upon the polls!
Geddy Lee is my favorite singer of the three, so I will go with him. |

Very hard to choose. I'm not a fan of Gillan, but early Geddy sonds very interesting (and I prefer his screams over his normal voice ). Plant is classic of course.

Plant, but I don't consider him a squeaker. Geddy on the other hand...

Robert Plant is the only singer who attracts me out of this list.

indeed, Plant is more of a wailer for me. But while Plant is the wailer and Geddy is the squealer, GIllan is simply Zeus calling out from atop Olympus. |

A singer, not a lyricist, ...
Never liked Geddy's voice. That leprechaun voice ... it just doesn't work for me. Now, if I remember correctly, it wasn't quite so on Clockwork Angels. Ian ... never liked his wailing. When he sings he does not stand out as a singer. When he wails, the wailing sounds rather weak to my ears. Robert ... not one of the best singers I've heard thus far, but out of these three he gets my vote. Boy, could he sing high, loud, and clear. His vocal tone sounds very much acceptable. He sure knew how to sing with an edge, with a character, with an amazing drive, with power.

Although I'm not a huge Deep Purple fan, I must say that Ian Gillan has the most pleasant voice out of these. Plant and Lee can get pretty irritating in the really high registers.

Back in the seventies, Ian Gillan. Today, Geddy Lee.
