So, there are three singers with a characteristic expression, sometimes turning into (unpleasant for someone ) shriek. Which one of these is your favorite and why?

Robert Plant's shrieks have an uncontested sound which gives them added value. Gillan has the advantage of his name, but only for Dutch-speaking readers (gillen = to shriek).

I voted for Geddy, although I did like him better after he stopped shrieking.
Robert Plant would have been an obvious choice, since I love Zeppelin so much, but in the end I had to admit that the few Zeppelin moments I dislike are primarily due to him.
Ian Gillan has the best pipes of the three, but I'm just not as enthusiastic about Purple.

I'd pick Ian if only for his work in the original 1970 studio recording of Jesus Christ Superstar. Oh yeah, that and his stuff with friggin' Black Sabbath. Dead

Great day for stumbling upon the polls!

Geddy Lee is my favorite singer of the three, so I will go with him.

Very hard to choose. I'm not a fan of Gillan, but early Geddy sonds very interesting (and I prefer his screams over his normal voice Shocked). Plant is classic of course.

Plant, but I don't consider him a squeaker. Geddy on the other hand...

indeed, Plant is more of a wailer for me. But while Plant is the wailer and Geddy is the squealer, GIllan is simply Zeus calling out from atop Olympus.

A singer, not a lyricist, ...

Never liked Geddy's voice. That leprechaun voice ... it just doesn't work for me. Now, if I remember correctly, it wasn't quite so on Clockwork Angels.

Ian ... never liked his wailing. When he sings he does not stand out as a singer. When he wails, the wailing sounds rather weak to my ears.

Robert ... not one of the best singers I've heard thus far, but out of these three he gets my vote. Boy, could he sing high, loud, and clear. His vocal tone sounds very much acceptable. He sure knew how to sing with an edge, with a character, with an amazing drive, with power.

Eh? Confused He is no banshee, but if you asked me which one he is more like, Zeus or a banshee, I'd say "a banshee, ... which he is not".

I too think that Robert is the most handsome of them all.

Although I'm not a huge Deep Purple fan, I must say that Ian Gillan has the most pleasant voice out of these. Plant and Lee can get pretty irritating in the really high registers.

Back in the seventies, Ian Gillan.

Today, Geddy Lee.

Back in the day Robert Plant, easily..

These days Geddy Lee (although I always preferred the music of Rush)

Never been a big fan of Gillan to be honest.

He's barely done any wailing since Hemispheres.  After Moving Pictures, he toned it down considerably and his 80's/90's/00's output has been much more accessible, vocal-wise.

I love his singing in every era, though.  I've always thought him better than Plant.  He gets my vote.

I'll vote for Geddy... but David Surkamp from Pavlov's Dog is the best "squeaker" in my opinion.

I don't even care much for LZ, but I prefer Plant's voice over the other two by miles.

Indeed, don't think I've ever heard these guys 'squeak'

If they did, it would have been in the privacy of their own home, and never committed to vinyl.

That's Gillan, in'nent it. Good voice that could easily stretch into the stratosphere. And he still got it, too.

No one squeaks.
Gillian is my favourite singer, especially when he sings Jesus in 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.
I like Plant, too. Geddy does not sing, I agree LOL

Oddly enough, Plant is the only one of the three whose voice actually annoys me (though I do still like quite a bit of the stuff he sings). Between the other two, I'll have to give it to Gillan for making far better use of his range.
