OMGLOL, now I get it! I had to concentrate really hard to read Henry's line in other ways than the one that stuck in my head. It looks so much like he's adressing Jim's second line that it tricked two people not one.

Opel have been owned by GM for quite a while now, but they've only been re-badged Vauxhall's/Holdens/Chevrolete's for 20 years or more now, and FIAT and GM both own a fair few shares in each other
|
I knew about GM, when I mentioned the takeover I was referring to the planned takeover of GM by Fiat. That would have probably meant Fiat also owning Opel.

Fiat took over Chrysler. I don't think there was ever any talk of them taking over GM.

GM have owned Opel since 1929 according to Wiki, (and Vauxhall since 1925), and they have been re-badging Opels as Vauxhalls since the late 70s (much like Ford UK & Ford Germany)

Fiat only wanted to buy Opel/Vauxhall from GM in 2009 just after GM filed Chapter 11 ... I think only Saab was sold-off in the end.

To my knowledge, Chrysler (and Jeep) is owned by Daimler-Benz (as in Mercedes). I couldd be outdated , but I never heard of Fiat doing so

As for VW Scirocco, I had a friend who owned one of those "vicious" G60 version >> not the most habitable (shoulder space) cars, though.... and damn near impossible to get laid on the back seats
Although from the looks of the latest Scirocco model, this still seems to be the case. in terms of space
But the worst for that is the Volvo C30.... Better have a dismountable (in 3, preferably) tooth brush, if you want to put in in the trunk... the toothpaste tube wikll thenfind space on the backseat

Mercedes Benz unloaded Chrysler a few years ago. Last year after filing bankruptcy, Fiat and Chrysler merged with Fiat taking over.

the "G60" wasn't a factory-fit in the Scirocco so that must have been a custom retro-fit, it was put into the Corrado, but hey-ho - small german coupé made by VW - close enough.

You're absolutely right... It was a Corrado (the heir of the Scirocco), my bad
and the G40 was installed in the Polo if memory serves ( but apparently not always well )
----------------------
For Daimler-Benz and Chrysler... Apparently I missed an episode (won't be the first... I'm not that much a car follower, except when I'm looking to buy a new one).... Did Mercedes keep Jeep?? (I think that was the main intent of the Germans... get a hold on Jeep)

Nope. Jeep stayed with Chrysler. I don't know if Mercedes kept the technology or not though.

The G40 in the Polo was another "vicious" little car - one of those seriously embarassed me at the lights once my fault for thinking it was just another Polo
... anyway the Scirocco had tonnes of room in the back (easily enough to get laid should the desire/oportunity arise), however mine was occupied by two 10" midrange speakers, a 12" subwoofer cannon and five 100W poweramps - I also upgraded the door speakers to 150W 8x5 elipticals (unfortunately the magnets were so strong they distorted the door-panels - a minor inconvenience).

My remark about the backseat was valid for the Corrado... Agreed that there was enough room in the Scirocco's backseat ... I was never big on big woofers, i preferred big hooters much more

I think gas here is about $1.06 right now, which is ridiculous because they are making it down the street.

what? They're fossilising organic matter at the bottom of a lake at high temperatures and pressures down the street from you? - that's going to take a while I think...

I've heard that it in Europe it generally equates to what would be 8 or 9 dollars a gallon for us.
