I was thinking musically -- just added that video in an edit as an afterthought.  I think it helps to show that they can appeal to the same kind of audience, though.  And I figured Queen might have been an infleunce on marillion music

I'd say they have both made similar styled music,.  Both can be very dramatic, both have made AOR, Arena rockish music. To me the music is not worlds apart. And both have made proggy music.  Id say they're 'more similar than other music in the archives, say comparing Marillion with Univers Zero.

MArillion and Queen have played at gigs together, not just that one, which to me indicates that the music appeals to similar audiences.  I had not read that Queen was influenced by Marillion, just my impression, but looking up wkipedia just now, which I know is not the most reliable resource, it mentions Queen being an influence:

I'm not sure why you don't at least consider Marillion AORish.  I could see both bands have albums reviewed in a melodic rock/ AOR website.

Queen by miles. Misplaced Childhood is good though.

I prefer Queen but that is just because I don't care for Marillion post-Fish. If they had stayed together Marillion would now be among the great.
