Marillion, for both, their neo-prog period and their more "crossover prog" period.
Queen was a very talented band, even prog at times, but I was never fond of them.

Queen's really under-appreciated here. Marilliion had a run of four pretty great albums, but Queen did it for longer than that. only on a prog site can Marillion compet and get even with one of the mastodonts of rock, that is Queen.
both bands are over generally good, i think Marillion learnd more tricks from Queen then vica versa

Historically I've known Queen for a lot longer than Marillion, but in recent years I've listened to Marillion a lot more, so my vote goes to Marillion, but I love both bands. -------------

I have no interest in Queen, but I have a bunch of Marillion, My policy is to never speak ill of an artist I don't know very well.

Queen was simply a better band, and only on this website would a derivative group like Marillion be in the same discussion. The three consecutive albums Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack and A Night at the Opera are simply amazing. And I figured Queen might have been an infleunce on marillion music I'd say they have both made similar styled music,. Both can be very dramatic, both have made AOR, Arena rockish music. To me the music is not worlds apart. And both have made proggy music. Id say they're 'more similar than other music in the archives, say comparing Marillion with Univers Zero. |

MArillion and Queen have played at gigs together, not just that one, which to me indicates that the music appeals to similar audiences. I prefer Queen but that is just because I don't care for Marillion post-Fish. If they had stayed together Marillion would now be among the great.
