I've been gathering data for one week (about 4th-11th, something like that) in January 2010. I'll make top list of reviewers, using: 1)From most prolific to least And that's all. For everyone wanting to ask, WHY ? I have a reply: It's fun to do (and some may actually find it interesting a little bit). I'm just curious, who's writing most these days and want to share it with you. Edited by Marty McFly - January 19 2010 at 16:52 |

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

I would say UMUR. Jonas regularly contributes reviews, and his are generally very high quality. He has over 1,400 and that helps as well.

Damn.
Do the people who have over 1000 reviews download their music illegally? I only buy music. And if I reviewed every single prog album I own, I would still only have about 155 reviews! |

Some people have tons and tons of old stuff they may revisit, some purchase the albums, and some get promos. But really, 1400 reviews is only around $20,000 worth of media. |

It would be WAAAAAAY more than $20,000 for me.
In Australia, cds are insanely expensive compared to europe and the U.S. Worse still, it's practically impossible to find good prog here anyway. So for most albums I buy, I end up paying for international shipping! |

I used to review only albums I had (and now I have over 1,000), but now I get promos from the owner of the site with which I have been collaborating since June (I got a couple from bands as well). Thanks to this, I have been able to learn about a lot of new, exciting bands and artists.

I only have 126 reviews, but I bet many of the people with over a thousand reviews find stuff in the bargain bin in their record store. I can find stuff in my record store for $3 or $4 |

Well, that's USD in the first place. I believe it's only about $20 AUD for an album -- been a while since I've been in Oz, though. So yeah, it's still not likely to be more than $30,000, even in AUD. |

I have so dropped the ball on reviewing. I am so ashamed. I'll get back it though.

Speaking of which, is your collection all old or do you have a decent place to find discs in ATL? |

For many reasons, I am proud to be an Australian. The availabilty of such prog is not one of them! Even if I manage to find a SECOND-HAND prog album in a discount bin, which is incredibly rare, I am still likely to pay around AU$10.00. That's the situation here. It sucks so bad. There's one underground cd shop I go to where they actually got a lot of good 70s prog. But they struggle to survive selling such music, so I would pay AU$30 there for an album. It's terrible! |

Yeah, that's not terribly surprising. I remember finding my material in Oz from other places that didn't specialize in prog -- I picked up an album from a place called Metal Mayhem in Melbourne for about 20 AUD, IIRC. Where are you in Oz, anyway? I mean, if you're in Adelaide or Brisbane, you're pretty much hosed anyway. ;) |

Yeah, I'm in Melbourne. I know Metal Mayhem....when I'm not proggin', I'm thrashin', hehe.
The situation for metal is nowhere near as bad as the situation for prog. Though Metal Mayhem was apparently not doing to well, because they had to move from the city out to northcote, an outer suburb. But yeah, at least it's not Adelaide, hehe. Edited by Eapo_q42 - January 19 2010 at 18:36 |

Is my collection all old??? All old???. Wel,l I don't collect like a used to. My favorite independent brick an mortar store is Decatur CD. In fact I dropped in this weekend and picked up Sargasso Sea, New Chataqua, and We Lost The Skyline. I did have to order four Big Big Trains and the new Steve Hackett from overseas before those. Aw, but they were in such a good location. I suppose being under the rail had its costs, though. (Why do I have a picture of the place? I don't recall. But I do anyway, so hey.) |

I know. There's a Hastings in Albuquerque as well as a Bookman's in Flagstaff that I always visit when I go to those places, but in the former used CDs are still around $10 and in the latter around $7. I think the cheapest CD I got was Steve Vai's Ultra Zone for $3.99. I'll probably never find another one I'm interested in for under five. Maybe I just need to find a new city.
