I've been gathering data for one week (about 4th-11th, something like that) in January 2010. I'll make top list of reviewers, using:
1)From most prolific to least 2)Listed ratings used, so we'll make some kind of average rating
And that's all. For everyone wanting to ask, WHY ? I have a reply: It's fun to do (and some may actually find it interesting a little bit). I'm just curious, who's writing most these days and want to share it with you.

I would say UMUR. Jonas regularly contributes reviews, and his are generally very high quality. He has over 1,400 and that helps as well.

Damn.
Do the people who have over 1000 reviews download their music illegally?
I only buy music. And if I reviewed every single prog album I own, I would still only have about 155 reviews!

Some people have tons and tons of old stuff they may revisit, some purchase the albums, and some get promos. But really, 1400 reviews is only around $20,000 worth of media.

It would be WAAAAAAY more than $20,000 for me.
In Australia, cds are insanely expensive compared to europe and the U.S.
Worse still, it's practically impossible to find good prog here anyway. So for most albums I buy, I end up paying for international shipping!

I used to review only albums I had (and now I have over 1,000), but now I get promos from the owner of the site with which I have been collaborating since June (I got a couple from bands as well). Thanks to this, I have been able to learn about a lot of new, exciting bands and artists.

I only have 126 reviews, but I bet many of the people with over a thousand reviews find stuff in the bargain bin in their record store. I can find stuff in my record store for $3 or $4

Well, that's USD in the first place. I believe it's only about $20 AUD for an album -- been a while since I've been in Oz, though. So yeah, it's still not likely to be more than $30,000, even in AUD.

For many reasons, I am proud to be an Australian.
The availabilty of such prog is not one of them!
Even if I manage to find a SECOND-HAND prog album in a discount bin, which is incredibly rare, I am still likely to pay around AU$10.00.
That's the situation here. It sucks so bad. There's one underground cd shop I go to where they actually got a lot of good 70s prog. But they struggle to survive selling such music, so I would pay AU$30 there for an album.
It's terrible!

Yeah, that's not terribly surprising. I remember finding my material in Oz from other places that didn't specialize in prog -- I picked up an album from a place called Metal Mayhem in Melbourne for about 20 AUD, IIRC. Where are you in Oz, anyway? I mean, if you're in Adelaide or Brisbane, you're pretty much hosed anyway. ;)

Yeah, I'm in Melbourne. I know Metal Mayhem....when I'm not proggin', I'm thrashin', hehe.
The situation for metal is nowhere near as bad as the situation for prog. Though Metal Mayhem was apparently not doing to well, because they had to move from the city out to northcote, an outer suburb.
But yeah, at least it's not Adelaide, hehe.

Is my collection all old??? All old???. Wel,l I don't collect like a used to.
My favorite independent brick an mortar store is Decatur CD. In fact I dropped in this weekend and picked up Sargasso Sea, New Chataqua, and We Lost The Skyline. I did have to order four Big Big Trains and the new Steve Hackett from overseas before those.

I know. There's a Hastings in Albuquerque as well as a Bookman's in Flagstaff that I always visit when I go to those places, but in the former used CDs are still around $10 and in the latter around $7. I think the cheapest CD I got was Steve Vai's Ultra Zone for $3.99. I'll probably never find another one I'm interested in for under five. Maybe I just need to find a new city.

I know how you're feeling.
Apart from having to pay for international postage, I usually end up waiting 10 days + and Australia post has lost 3 of mine over the past month
Also, the occasional prog CD's I do find in Australia are usually massively overpriced
Marty, whenever I go to the front page I usually see some of yours. I think Snobb may have this one though; I nearly always see (and read) his reviews on the front page. Good quality and quantity

Actually, I created this thread and went to bed, thinking that nobody will be interested, but let's do it now: My guess is Bonnek

Then, next day I waited till 8:30 and captured the rest that makes entire week. And here we are. This day (1) I'm lucky to be first. Other days I'm not. Some of you are here guys, I've just written down you, Henk (progrules). I have my periods (don't call me woman), or we can call them "bursts", as I write easily 10 reviews a day, using thoughts and ideas that accumulated in my head over time and then, easily, day or two nothing. So, to sum it up, this is not list of BEST reviewers, as I didn't find the mean how to count these words in effective way. And after all, long review doesn't mean good review.
So I'll not go for evaluating reviewers, this is dirty job. Good review can be short. Bad review can be short. Good review can be long. Bad review can be long. Good review can be of middle size. Bad review can be of middle size.
As I see, fore-mentioned UMUR makes one very informative and long review per day. From what can I see, it's a good one. Interesting fact about this from this thread's point of view is his regularity.

OK Seventh S., no bad feelings, but lack of reply after adding actual valuable information, about which this thread should be, or more like lack of absolutely no reply at all left me hesitating about it all. Also I've switched from Win XP to Linux and back meanwhile, finished my first term on university, started new one (semester) and returned to reviewing. So, let's do it.

I've managed to collect about 1000 cds and 400 vinyls, I planned to review them all at one time, but now I don't really care - it liberates me to listen to whatever I want, whenever I want. I still buy albums at an alarming pace, although now it's not just for the thought of expressing my opinion on them.
People who say that someone with 500 reviews can't be buying them legit is crazy. When you get out of highschool and have a decent job you tend to spend a lot of money on things you like

If i reviewed all my albums I wouldn't have time for eating, sleeping, crapping or breathing. I just review albums that I happen to listen to and have a bit of time to kill. I think it would be difficult to do this sort of thing professionally. Listening to a record for the sole intention of critcizing it. Doesn't make any sense to me. It's funny before this site I had never really payed attention to reviews. I only knew that Rolling Stone hated most of the music I listened to so I never bothered secure in the knowledge that bands like Focus, Gentle Giant and King Crimson were where it was at.

Yeah the first year I started working I purchased maybe 15 - 20 albums a week ( most second hand LPs but also CDs). No obligations whatsoever and I lived with my parents so I had more money and time to spend them than I will probably ever have again. My purchase rate has gone down a bit in the last 5 years after I had my children but most people would probably still consider my habits to be somewhat compulsive. . I´ve lost count of how many albums I have, but it´s gotten to a point where I´ve had to pack a lot of CDs away in my basement. There simply aren´t room for more in our small apartment. Actually, I'm having a bit of a writers block right now so I have some time for the forum The reason I write so much is because I'm a very focussed kind of guy and I want it over and done with! From May onwards I'll probably won't be writing anything anymore till next fall.
I am one of those lucky guys who works from home, meaning I stop working around 17u, and then write 3-4 reviews and do the cooking, all before my wife gets home around 19u! Besides I only work 4/5 now.
Considering the album ownership matter. I've been buying albums for 25 years now (around 30 up to 80 titles a year), there's also plenty of good libraries here in Belgium (ask Sean Trane) and I have plenty of the 70's stuff from my brother. I don't shy away to listening to new music using the possibilities of the internet but I want to own everything I like eventually. 'Owning' albums without paying the artist is highly unethical in my view.

Hehe, I suppose I wrote all of them in one day, that's me. Have to finish what I started, right ? We can compare then.

Well, you posted the most reviews (6) in a single day! I only managed 2 reviews for the whole week.
I started the list from 11.30 EST on Monday, and finished at midnight on Sunday. A total of 196 reviews by 77 different members - 34 collabs and 43 ordinary members.

Back when I was a prolific reviewer of sorts, I remember posting 5 in a day once. Now, if I post five in two or three months, it's already something to be celebrated...

One day, I've reviewed about 12 albums. All of them classics that I know by heart. And to lesser extent, this happened few times (8-10 per day) in past. It's writer's rush and it works. Even my reviews aren't the longest ones here :)

Marty, I'm keeping a database of reviews and each Monday I'll post the 'Top 10', at least for the next few weeks. I'm happy to do this on a weekly basis (just involves a little book-keeping). However people may get tired of this, so I could just post the list at the end of each month. Just a bit of fun, not a competition.

I see. I don't want to compete, just to finish what I started and wasn't able to finish. Somehow :)
your lists are good, I wondered if I can do it somehow too, so easily.
