Just a curiosity, has it ever been considered to print an edition with the contents of the site?

Who will select better reviews (I don't think anybody needs hundreds of ITCOTCK, DSOTM, SEBTP etc reviews) and who will correct all spelling errors in reviews and bios?
And who will buy it, if all information is available online and constantly grows?

If you assume a 400 page book - you are looking at 12 bands, 57 albums and 460 ratings/reviews per page. (Microscope extra)
If we allowed 1 band per page and 400 pages per book that would be an 11 volume set.
If we allowed 1 album per page the book would be 1.29m thick (4 feet 3 inches).

It's feasible:
![]() could fit alot on these pages
![]() With the site continually adding content, the volume set would be outdated in a matter of a couple of months.. A magazine would be cool though... Edited by Plankowner - May 28 2009 at 17:06 |

Theoretically it's possible to manufacture something of a size of Encyclopaedia Britannica - but then we should get supplementals every week.

I`ve got a book already written but nobody will touch it because of the title " The Sun Shines Out Of My Ass ". I`ll actually try these guys. I even like the name Lulu Lulu. Sounds like looney. I like it. I like it.
As for a book about progrock. The only one I can think of that comes close to hitting the nail on the head and puts prog into perspective is Edward Macan`s semi-scholarly work entitled " Rockin`The Classics ". |

I'd buy it for the title alone. |

Lulu is self-publishing (so called vanity press) so they will print it regardless of the title.

My idea wasnīt a collection of reviews, but a collection of bands and artists and their records. Maybe Iīm a bit romantic, but I have always considered a printed edition more serious (in scholar terms, itīs always considered a more serious reference a book than a website). Imagine some kind of porg rock atlas:
vol1: Europe
vol 2. Asia
vol 3: USA and Canada
vol 4: South America
vol 5: Africa (as far as I know, not too many bands from there, so it could be joined with another volume)
vol 6: Australia
Who would buy it? well, it could be useful to launch the question "Would you buy the Ultimate Prog Rock Resource if it was printed?" Well, I donīt know about the rest of you, but I would

I would imagine that some volumes would sell better than others and Europe would have to be split into several volumes but it certainly stacks up with the maths in my earlier post:
...of course we would have to completely revise and rewrite many of the biographies to bring them to an equal standard and format, and there would be the issue of album cover image copyright because the size and quality of the images would have to be far greater than we have here (ie 600dpi Print quality rather than 200px overall size)

Speaking of children's books. Prog Rock encyclopaedia should be a picture book, perhaps with cardboard pop-up characters (Fripp bumping off his stool, customize you own Keith Emerson gear, pick a costume for Peter Gabriel). With such a book we could introduce prog to our children one day!
Of course, the whole avant category should not be included because it can scare the children away. Except maybe "pick you own mask for Captain Trout the Beefheart". |
